Voice of reason?
That's quite a strange way for newbie to describe himself, herself, yo'self, quoself... How funny that you are such a diehard UConn fan, and the first we ever saw of you was January 2014. Where were you all these years? Some of us have been on this board since the first wave of realignment (through the exodus from the old kf.c board). And we've seen a lot...
You've been largely MIA for the past year or so. You are a true sunshiner - you disappeared after all the bad stuff happened - losing more members, losing the Big East name, losing AQ, signing the awful media deal.
You only resurfaced the last 3-4 months after UCF won the Fiesta Bowl and then amplified yourself after UConn won the national title. You only post around here when you think there's a reason to chest-thump about the AAC and then you also go over to boards of rival conferences to crow about the conference to them too. A true fair-weather friend.
If we don't win anything in football or basketball next year, you'll be gone once again.
1st: We didn't lose members: We added members. The schools that left, left for more money. 2nd. We didn't lose the Big East name, we sold it for Big Buck's. 3rd. Lost AQ status. I believe the P-5 voted us out of the club.4th. Terrible TV deal, short term, Underpaid , long term, we will have to wait and see what the exposure does for the AAC. Anybody can side line coach, Quo, you are not in the Huddle and you are not calling the shots. All you get to do is wishful thinking and side line coach. Opinions are like rear ends, everybody has one. I wish a lot of things played out differently, but with the cards Mr. Aresco was dealt. He did a darn good job. Would-a, should-a, Could-a's, sound great, but they are not made by the folks in the battle and having to make tough decisions. They are usually fans or outsiders who like to share their opinions to folks who don't care what they think. Have a great day, but please go to another board. MrP3242
I'm not sure I've ever seen a more divorced-from-reality example of Newspeak.
We *did* lose members, a whole pile of them, and many valuable ones. We then back-filled with schools from lesser conferences, far less valuable ones. By your logic, if the B1G lost Ohio State but then backfilled with Marshall and Western Michigan, they actually "added" members.
We *did* lose the Big East name. Yes, the way we lost it was we sold it, but we lost it nonetheless. Sunshiners like Homer were harumphing that we shouldn't sell it and never would sell it, but of course we did sell it, and it is gone.
We *did* lose our AQ status. Of course the way we lost it is we were voted out (is that really a feel-good way to lose it?), but we lost it none the less.
And our media deal *is* for peanuts. We are getting paid 40% less for our football and basketball than the Big East is getting for their basketball! That is peanut money. You can claim we're "underpaid" but that's just hot air, the fact is the market valued us at that amount.
You can think that Aresco did a "darn good job" if you want (free country) but it's hard to imagine how the results could have been worse?
Anyway, thinking Aresco has done a terrible job, and that our media deal sucks, is no less valid a view to have on this board than your cheerleading.
If you drop 4 members and add 4 members you have the same number of members. Are they all the same quality: No, Navy and ECU might be of the same quality in football, but the other teams are weaker brands. The schools that left, left for more money, the teams that joined the conference joined for more money.
Big East Name: The Catholic schools wanted the name and we sold it to them for over $100 million. That's a good business deal in my mind. Now we have a new conference name, which I think is a very decent name and we can grow the brand with it. ( The American Athletic Conference--Moniker--American Rising--Logo--AAC ) You say we lost the name. I say we sold it at a great price. The media deal was for peanuts, but we will have to see what the exposure does for the conference over the next few years. I believe the BE TV contract will go down in value and the next AAC TV contract will go up in value. How much? Who knows? Not me. The AAC is a G-5+++ Conference and it has a bright future if they play their cards right. I see the AAC conf. glass half full, you see the AAC glass empty. That's your opinion, so why do you want to be on this AAC board. Who wants to talk to a negative person all day long? I don't. I want to talk to fans that love their schools, teams, & conference and cheer for them in competitive events on this board. What do you gain by saying the sky is grey all day long? I'd rather be a Sun shiner vs. being a doomsday person all the time. You act as if your the only one that sees the short falls in the conference. We see them, but we choose to fight on and try to beat the big boys and the power brokers. Mr. Arecso has fought the battle well and in my opinion has done an excellent job. MrP3242
