I wouldnt call continual expansion to make your league way too large being on the ball. The WAC tried this...and we saw what happened to them. Small 10 team leagues are the way to go...maybe 12 if you think you can make money off a title game.

They aren't getting bigger. They are discussing contingency plans if teams like Tulsa, USM, UTEP, Rice etc leave. It is called being smart and proactive. Benson doesn't know anything about that....

Plus they are most likely talking about other things like scheduling with crossovers and such for this coming season.

Benson out mowing the lawn right now drinking a beer. Meanwhile, CUSA is strategizing.

But thats part of the point. They seem to insist on having a 14 team league. If they lost Tulsa and Southern Miss to the Big East right now, they would still have a 12 team league once Charlotte join, and you would think expansion would be pointless.

Everyone complains about the SBC not expanding at this moment, but in reality its not a bad idea. We frankly dont know what CUSA is going to do, and if they are not going to move, it would make no sense to add NMSU for example. Its better for us to wait it out, and see who they take before we add teams. Those teams will still be there and available in May just like they are right now.

I believe the plan has been set, we are just waiting on moves within CUSA. I don't like it, as such a plan wreaks of being reactionary to changes within the environment. But, it is more than likely the course that has been decided.

If SB loses 2 or 3 more, the teams left are really screwed. They would need new FCS schools to immediately ramp up ASAP to get ready which takes time. The sooner they can begin the better.

If I were Troy, USA, ULM, Tx St I would be raising holy hell about immediately adding now since it is highly unlikely they get an invite and they are left dealing with what is left of the SB. I would also remind Ark St, UL, WKU that at least one of you will be hurt badly with the delays. Who knows, this could drag on for months and the longer the SB waits, the longer it hurts the conference.

There is no difference in inviting an FCS today and waiting until May 31. NCAA timeline is the same.

Correct. And you can be sure the Belt is already talking with several teams. It can take a while for move up teams to get all their ducks in a row with funding, facility plans, studies on viability of being FBS, etc.

And it is a safe assumption, the pool knows who they are. Visiting the issue with them in a month or two to see what they are doing to get ready can help make a better decision about who can handle the move.

You still are operating under the assumption like those 3 programs are sure adds, and you also are operating on the assumption that none of the programs have prepared for life as an SBC member. I cant speak for ULL and WKU, but I can assure you our administration is not that stupid. We know very well we could easily be in the Sun Belt for years to come, and I can assure you that ASU has made literally zero statements about realigntment since this started. We are prepping our fans for life in the SBC, and you can be sure ULL's administration is doing the same, and even Western to a degree.

I believe that our primary focus (finally) is striving to improve our program at the grass roots level. Fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals.

I think a lot of schools have been rubbing the conference realignment bottle hoping that a genie comes out and elevates their program by magic.

I think our strategy is set no matter what league we are part of. I think that strategy is the ECU/USM/App State model and I think it is the right strategy no matter what league you are part of.

Been in CUSA for a month and already an expert on what they will do.

Nope but losing Tulsa does not hurt tv households. There will be no immediate need to fill their spot to keep tv contracts in place. With all the BE uncertainty they are going to wait. You don't have to believe me. Just ask the WKU insiders they will tell you talks of WKU leaving have cooled. It still may happen but the rumor is CUSA is waiting.Possibly to see if there is an implosion. Possibly to see if GSu can get it together and be a player. Possibly to see if ULL would be a better fit due to geography. Just don't expect Tulsa leaving to spark an immediate reaction like Tulane and ECU did.

CUSA does not and has never waited around. If anything they move too quickly sometimes.
