No one else is taking the job with our conference situation.

So basically no coach that is coaching a winning mid-major program or assisting a major conference program that is making $400k won't take a job at a school with the financial ability and willingness to pay its coach seven figures, going to have two or three returning McD's all-Americans, and probably be able to keep at least two of one of the top recruiting classes plus has more local talent in the pipeline, play in an NBA arena, and doesn't have to follow Calipari would take this job?

Sometimes I worry about my fellow Tiger fans.

It has me curious... Had Tic Price never had his issue, how long would you guys have stuck with him?

Your just trying way too hard here.

Trying too hard... So tell me... If Tic Price had not had the issue that led to his resignation, how long would you have gone with him?

Your just setting yourself up for a huge disapointement when he doesn't take the USC job and stays here.

For all of you who jump at any opportunity to wish JP was gone, what will be your reasoning when we win in the NCAA tourney this year and likely beat a top 25 school? JP has been a top 10 recruiter and has averaged 25+ games during his years here - that is far from mediocre as JP's performance has been labeled.

Such unfair and less than objective comments makes those of us that are just Memphis fans & want the best for our teams each time they play but are not particularily enamoured with JP feel compelled to defend him.

How can you even compare Price with Pastner? His record at Memphis was 17-12 and 13-15. Apples and oranges.

Price faced a much tougher CUSA. If Tic Price faced this CUSA with the financial backing the program gets now, he'd probably have 12-14 wins in conference every year.

And he was a horrible insufficient coach. Pastner is a better recruiter, but we can't say he's a better coach on the floor than Tic Price.

My issue with Pastner is never about one game or one season.

My personal concern is that Pastner is not getting better than the best we can expect with him is being what this school is too good to be...

A program that makes 3 NCAAs out of 4, and makes it to the sweet sixteen a time or two every decade.

Pastner was the wrong coach for the job. Him being a great guy and an amazing recruit swayed people on his side, but he will probably not be any better than he is now five years from now.

And if we have this season and five more like the last two years, the brand would be what it was pre-Cal, post-Finch.

Then my friends, we have become UAB again.

A) It would be stupid for USC NOT to contact JP.

B) It would be stupid for JP NOT to listen.

These are truths, whether you want to admit it or not.

I don't know if it would be stupid for USC not to contact JP.

I would be stupid if JP didn't have his people contact USC.

USC would probably be a great job for him.

But I don't know how USC's facilities are.

But while the masses at Memphis are signing Pastner's praises, now might be the best time to go if he doesn't want to risk his wunderkind status.

So let me get this straight, Josh is gonna run off to a school that plays second fiddle in its own city when it comes to COLLEGE hoops, maybe 10th when it comes to all sports? Because of 10 or 12 fans on a message board and maybe 10 or 12 fans that call in to a sports talk show? Wow some of you need really need some serious medication.

So if the UAB coach wins the next two CUSA tournaments while losing in the first round of the NCAA each time, does that mean he will be able to have enough accomplishments to brag about?

If another school is foolish enough to offer Pastner because of what his potential might be, it'll be time for the University of Memphis and its fanbase to celebrate.

It's a do-over without having to get our hands dirty without turmoil or a firing.

Schools will pursue coaches they believe will offer success because it is in their self interest. Their collective judgement does not tend to support foolhardiness but rather recognizes the accomplishments by Pastner to date and in the future.

Pastner's resume includes: winning at a higher rate in the first three years than HOF coaches like Coach K and Knight, winning two conference championships despite being the Super Bowl game of every single opponent in our conference, making the NCAA Tourney two years in a row which is not enjoyed by 80% (at least) of NCAA D-1 schools, improving academic achievements, keeping players out of major trouble, and recruiting at a high level. And he will get better as he gains experience.

Also, you assume a better coach will replace Pastner when recent history indicates otherwise.

Finally, replacing Pastner may mean losing a top three class. The new coach, assuming he is more competent than Pastner, will have a major rebuilding job at a time when we are moving to the nBE.

If Texas fires Barnes this year.

Who they gonna get?

IF Texas had hopes of letting Pastner season a couple more years at Memphis, they have to pull the trigger a little sooner than expected IF they think a school like USC can make a play.

NC State was at best the third best school in NC and Pastner listened. Plus folks in Cali dig the whole "positive energy" stuff a lot more over there. Can get into the Budda quotes on phone messages.
