Louisiana DC Stewart Will Not Return
Football Scoop January 9, 2013
Defensive coordinator Greg Stewart will not be returning. The search for the last puzzle piece to an SBC championship run has begun. Not sure on a short list yet.

What is the feeling like in Cajun Land about the firing?
I am in no position to judge seeing what we put on the field this year, but the Cajuns deffinately gave up a lot of points this year.

Coach Stewart is a great guy, but the feeling around UL is nothing but positive.
Time to get a defense that matches our offensive intensity.

Heard in chat on the Cajun Redzone last week. One of the leading candidates to replace him was Dave Turner, but he took the DL position coach at Mississippi State.

Wouldn't be a bad hire at all, of course it means Hud will leave after 2014 and Guidry will once again be left behind and be the interim coach in a bowl for a third time.
On second thought...aren't there drive thrum daiquiri stands in Lafayette?

Cristobal was interested in the WR job at Miami (FL), but reports have surfaced he is interested in the Head job at Delaware.

Guidry can be here, but I doubt that he takes over even for a bowl game if Hud would leave. I would hope that Coach Jay Johnson would be called upon to be our next coach if/when Hudspeth moves on, guy has done nothing but exceed all of our expectations as an OC.

That's provided Hud doesn't take him with him. Depending on where Hud goes he could get Johnson as much or more to follow him as OC than he'd get staying at Louisiana as head coach.
The remark was more a reflection on Guidry than an actual prediction anyhow. I just find it a bit peculiar that he seems to be generally well regarded as a DC but twice in three years he's seen the HC that hired him leave for another job, not take him with them to the new school and not be retained by the old school. He may just be a victim of bad timing, but he's about to start his fourth new job in the past six years, without ever being fired and only once being hired away.

Coach Johnson interviewed for the Southern Miss HC spot twice. I think he's itching for a head coach gig. If Hud would leave, and he was offered the Cajun HC position - I'd think he would take it.

I figured that it was tongue in cheek but just wanted to mention that I think Johnson is next in line from what I've heard. On the flip side, Guidry could end up here, and I think his defenses are good, but I think he's burned a few bridges with some high school coaches in the area that might turn Hud away from that hire. I'm gonna wait until some of this shakes out to make an honest prediction, and as evidenced with all of Hudspeths previous hires, he clearly has a lot of connections and I wouldn't be surprised to get a great young coach in over here.

Coachingsearch.com is reporting James Willis is the leading candidate to become the new DC.

The word is Willie Taggert didn't bring him along because he wasn't fond of the second half defensive breakdowns that cost WKU games against UL and ASU. This comes from several coaches that know Taggert and Guidry.

Jim Willis is the man if everything is approved. Not a done deal yet.

Former Tech defensive coordinator Willis pleads guilty to domestic violence... Is this the same Jim Willis?
