I take this with a grain of salt. I'd much rather spend a night hanging out on the campus of ASU-Jonesboro than at UCA, UALR or Memphis and many others.

Without question!

Interestingly, there was a front page article, and another on the 2nd page in the Jonesboro Sun today about campus crime. The headline stated that it was down in 2012, but the statistics listed didn't indicate that, other than a big drop in larceny.

Two themes to this propaganda piece:

1. Closing off Caraway Rd Rail crossing to pedestrians and vehicles limits traffic from people who are just passing through campus to get from the hood to the business district.

2. Increased enrollment requirements will ensure that students are more mature and prepared for college.

So this tells me two things - the University knows it has a problem and is trying to do something about it if not in solving it then in managing perceptions. And, they know they need to keep the delta at bay.

I guess the people at Berkeley are off in la la land as evidenced by the #2 most dangerous campus in the country. Since they already hate guns, maybe banning knives, hammers and heavy sticks will improve things.

Most major issues at ASU come from an area north of campus that is a nuisance and not students. UCA murder was guys from 75 miles away...not students. Most UALR problems are from problem neighborhoods near the school....not students. Both the most newsworthy murders at University of Memphis were committed pretty much by juveniles who were....not students. The guy who killed 3 football players at Auburn....not a student.

Large campus populations are going to be a magnet for crime everywhere

Obviously students are not what cause any campus to be unsafe.
