A comparison: UConn vs. Cincinnati
In response to Bearcat Bounce, who thinks the ACC is about to invite Cincinnati:

UConn:

1) total students: 30,000
2) endowment: $329 million (but the state has given UConn billions since 1995)
3) land grant?: yes
4) campus size: 4,272 acres (unlimited potential for growth)
5) U.S. News: #62
6) SAT's (25th/75th): 1130/1310
7) TV market: #30 (that's the "owned" Hartford/New Haven market, and we also have 1 million in the NYC metro)
8) Big East FB championships: 2
9) Big East men's BB championships: 17 (regular season and tourney)
10) average FB attendance: 34,672 (in a bad year)
11) average BB attendance: 12,640
12) national champions:
men's BB: 1999, 2004, 2011
men's soccer: 1948, 1981, 2000
women's BB: seven (I won't list them)

Cincinnati:

1) total students: 41,000
2) endowment: $1.004 billion
3) land grant?: no
4) campus size: 473 acres
5) U.S. News: #139
6) SAT's (25th/75th): 1030/1225
7) TV market: #35 (shared with Ohio State & Kentucky)
8) Big East FB championships: 5
9) Big East men's BB championships: 0
10) average FB attendance: 29,138 (in a championship year)
11) average BB attendance: 8,069
12) national champions:
men's BB: 1961, 1962

For the record, I didn't say that. I was quoting "Russell Wright, managing director of Collegiate Consulting, an Atlanta-based firm that has worked with 300 universities across the country."

“I think they’ve got a great shot to get into the ACC,” Wright said

I don't think either of us is going to the ACC until the final realignment apocalypse. That could happen tomorrow, or in 20 years.

My only point was that UConn comes out well in this comparison.

RE: A comparison: UConn vs. Cincinnati
In all seriousness, if UConn has unlimited room for growth, why build the stadium in East Hartford?

Did they want to make it as big a pain as possible for students?

This has been discussed many times. The State of Connecticut built the stadium in East Hartford because:

1) Storrs is a small New England town, with basically two roads in and out. Both roads are one lane in each direction. There is no way to accomodate 50,000+ people going to and from a football game in Storrs. Traffic would be horrific and there would probably be safety issues.

2) The land for the stadium was donated (it was free).

3) The stadium is owned by the state, which uses it for events other than UConn football.

4) The East Hartford location is more convenient for UConn fans because most of them live south/west of Hartford. Building it in Storrs would have probably resulted in lower attendance. UConn is the state's "pro" franchise; like any business, UConn has to make its product easily accessible for its customers.

5) I believe students can ride a free shuttle to and from the stadium, about 20 or 25 minutes from campus.

Having the stadium in East Hartford doesn't bother 99.9% of the people of Connecticut (including UConn students). The only ones who become unglued over this issue are the ones who have no connection to the state or the school.

RE: A comparison: UConn vs. Cincinnati
ACC doesn't want UCONN! If they did, you would have been in a long time ago. Realignment is about football and TV markets. Cincinnati is the largest city in the 7th largest state, which is the one of the most football crazy states in the country. Ohio is a top 5 recruiting market for football. Cincinnati is a top 5 college basketball media viewership rating and top 25 in college football. Ohio State fans love college football and watch UC football even if it is just sometimes to watch UC lose. Cincinnati and Ohio bring a new untapped market to the ACC, the Northeast is not big time college football market and is owned by BC and Syracuse. That being said, I think both UC and UCONN will get invited to the ACC next, once 2 more teams leave the ACC. Temple and South Florida will also make a strong push to get invited. UConn's football success will be limited because it is not in a hotbed recruiting area like Cincinnati/Ohio. More potential/current success is in favor of UC.

Here is the list of my top 5 potential ACC candidates in order.
1. Cincinnati
2. UConn
3. South Florida
4. Central Florida
5. Temple

Let's all pine for the ACC on our own boards.

I hope UCONN would have more BE championships...you've been in the conference many more years than UC.

I really have no desire for the ACC, but I do wish we still had Rutgers and Louisville. And all I want for Christmas is a complete (all-sports) western division for the Big East.

Everyone on God's green Earth wants to dump on UConn. I was just pointing out to Bearcat Bounce that any neutral assessment would probably have UConn ranked ahead of Cincinnati.

I have nothing against Cincinnati. Needless to say, if the Big East lost the Bearcats, it would be a huge hit.

What you failed to realize is the quote I provided WAS from a neutral observer and didn't make any mention of UC being ahead of other schools. I understand your need to defend your school however.

RE: A comparison: UConn vs. Cincinnati
I hope that UC and Uconn...and for that matter USF stay together wherever it is they end up playing. Joining the big east to compete against a school like UConn was so exciting nearly 10 years ago when the news came out.

I was at the game in 2009 before a Saturday night abc game where UC beat Uconn in a thrilling football game. Uconn has given UC some heartbreak in Connecticut. I think it's become a good rivalry.

I too wish that Syracuse and Pitt hadn't started this all, because had everyone stayed....add TCU and Boise and then perhaps BYU and SDSU this conference could have got a pretty damn good tv deal.

No offense to any schools I didn't mention. I hope everything works out good for every one on this board. We are all the teams being pushed out by other conference commissioners and big tv. It's ruining the appeal of college football.

I do think UC has many strong points. I just don't think it's right that only 64 teams will be able to compete one day perhaps. These conferences give "welfare" to many of their own members while some teams that have been able to compete with a lot less resources potentially get left out in the cold. Sure doesn't seem right to me or very collegiate.
