RE: New Conference Name?
Boise State is leaving Big East, SDSU I bet follows suit. This should make it easier to get the Big East name...

Mighty actually make it harder seeing how it will no longer be a national conference and be an eastern based one again.

Except they only have one original basketball school left and the only original football school was actually kicked out of the league and has only played one season in the Big East since 2005. So I'm not sure they have much claim to the name.

They may not have much moral claim to the name, but they do have the charter. If they choose to hang on to the name, we could pursue a court case challenging the trademark--apparently there are precedents from rock band breakups where one member had the trademark, but the rest of the band won in court.

Most likely, we'll pay the football schools for the name and intellectual property.

I agree. I don't think the NBE can win the fight in court but will settle for some money and maybe some sort of scheduling agreement.

They might win the court fight. But
1. It would cost them significant money when they're looking at rewriting their budgets to factor out the huge TV windfall they were expecting
2. I don't know how much good the brand does them--they're football-first, and BEFB is a tarnished brand
3. We're willing to give them money for it.

RE: New Conference Name?
I agree with John. I think the Big East name is tarnished and almost a laughing stock when they have clearly demonstrated the past five years or so, on how not to grow a conference. I would prefer the C7 just develop their own identity, brand, etc.

RE: New Conference Name?
I think it's a laughing stock for football but the Big East still is a good brand for basketball.

RE: New Conference Name?
I agree, but since Football drives the bus in college athletics, I think the Big East name is tarnished for BBall.

Football doesn't drive this bus. "Big East football" means 8-4 teams getting whupped in BCS bowls. "Big East basketball" means Final Fours.
