Right, you can offer a coach more money all you want, but I doubt the reason is because of what we paid Petrino.

Who cares what anyone paid. We both have very good coaches now. Enjoy it.

Heh...This isnt even official yet.

though I am hearing we are intentionally offering more than WKU offered Petrino...I guess to prove a point or something.

As if we need to prove were better! Petrino walked away bc we wouldn't accept another one and done! Him turning down more money/ year bc of. Buyout means.....he is only waiting for sec job!

Name me one coach outside of the BCS that isn't waiting or wouldn't jump for a SEC job? On second thought I think more than 50% of the BCS coaches are also waiting on SEC job and would jump.

So don't go acting like ASU has something special because if your new coach wins.... he's gone and it's that simple, nothing ASU can do about it.

Now be honest you still wish you got Petrino and just to point something out. NO school offers a coach more money just to "prove a point" to a coach that turned them down. That's just silly to even think something like that...or repeat it.

I didn't want Petrino and said so.

Quote:Less than 24 hours after Gus “Long-Haul in a U-Haul” Malzahn departed Arkansas State I received a call informing me that Bobby Petrino was actively pursuing the Arkansas State job. My initial reaction was that I did not want him representing Arkansas State. I’ve thought it over and honestly my opinion hasn’t changed.

Beyond the scandal at UA regarding his uh “hiring practices” other things trouble me. The departure from the Atlanta Falcons has received plenty of negative comment. The Louisville program went south under Kragthrope, Petrino’s replacement there, but many of the seeds of Kragthrope’s problems were planted under Petrino and he has been assigned some of the blame for APR problems Louisville had.

The guy wins. He wins a lot outside of the NFL where getting players and keeping them motivated is a different business than in college.

Part of what concerns me is that in the intercollegiate athletics world there is a double standard.

If Tennessee or Auburn had hired Petrino for their vacancies there would have been have been a scolding by the press but it would have been business as usual. When a Sun Belt, MAC, CUSA, or MWC hires a guy like that, the program is branded an outlaw. That’s unfair but it is how the game works.

I can’t find where Petrino has ever been found responsible for any NCAA wrong-doing nor strongly implicated. Not being a nice guy isn’t the same as breaking the rules to win and I don’t see that he’s ever been seriously accused. Being branded an outlaw by hiring a flawed character isn’t really fair especially when compared to hiring someone with a track record of skirting NCAA rules.

Media members are already tuning up to scold the school that hires him. That will be a cost of hiring him.

I’m not sold that hiring Petrino results in enough success to offset the beating ASU will get but the truth is my opinion doesn’t and shouldn’t matter.

RE: MERGED: Bryan Harsin new ASU Head Coach
WKU isn't getting a major scolding or even being branded an outlaw. Most analysts are actually praising WKU for the hire, saying he will do a lot of good for the program before he leaves.

Sure, a lot of people in the bible belt are ranting and raving about his past, but his past is not that bad compared to many other "worshiped" head coaches.

I think either school would have been happy with him, but Arkansas wouldn't be a good state for him to live right now.

Congratulations on your new head coach, ASU. Hope it's a good fight for the title next season between us.

Won't be a fight for the title next year! We will easily win our third outright championship!

Wish I had your confidence, fanatic. We do return a ton of players unlike last year so I think Harsin will have a team that can compete for that third title.

You might want to try google. There's a lot of scolding going on.

Any scolding that is happening will die down when Bobby P keeps his nose clean at WKU and guides us to possibly an undefeated season next year. College Football fans have a relatively short memory and attention span, if history is to be any indication.

When you are building a program any news other than the NCAA is knocking on your door is good news.

I look at it this way most likely every HS player in America (well 85% at least) heard or read the WKU name with in the last few days. How do you put a value on that?

I know it's worth 100x more than the negative press. Doesn't mean we will get that big boost in recruiting but at least now it won't be....WKU, who?

Harsin's contract pretty much offers the same perks as Malzahn.

700K per year with a 1.75 million dollar buyout. (We're going to profit off our coaches thank you very much!)

He and his family get housing provided by the University, as well as use of vehicles, and the country club perks we seems to offer all our coaches who think they are avid golfers.

It may take a while to take all the pictures of Gus Malzahn off the walls of his house though

Is that buyout a 2 way street? If so you could be stuck if the coach doesn't work out. Also does the buyout go down each year he's there?

I think all SBC schools should put in the huge buyout but make sure it's a one way street because in the end the school is the one giving out the opportunity and that should be worth something.

No we have a termination buyout for Harsin! Harsin get 2.5 mill if fired within first year!

I got $20 that says Bobby will act like a saint at least until his next job. Too much on the line.

Once he kicks Kentucky's ass all will have been forgotten.
