Is he not good enough to play for UAB BB?

And his scholarship would be no cost to the UAB baseball coach. He could literally just add him to the roster.

I wonder if Briscoe can come in and win the job outright. And if not, is it possible for him to have a redshirt since he's a greyshirt? Hypothetical question.

My guess is McGee is bringing Briscoe in with the promise to compete for the starting job. I don't think a guy like that comes to UAB to sit the bench.(see Greer)

That.

In fact, just that. Recruiting is like 85% lying. I am sorry but it is. While the guy may have a great shot of competing for the starting job, still, coaches will tell players anything to get them on the hook. Its just how it works.

Another question is, Will he have some physical advantage since AB will have had a couple surgeries?

Or will AB at 100% come spring ball?

Hey! You just invented a new classification for collegiate athletes -- "He is a PINK SHIRT player".

Is he not good enough to play for UAB BB?

I think he is, but here is the possible problem: The baseball team at UAB has probably committed its scholarships for this year, and with Craft leaving the football team, he loses that scholarship. So, he would have to pay his own way.

Instead, he is taking a scholarship (I assume) from a JUCO so he can earn another Division I scholarship in two seasons.

Is that better than paying his way for one semester at UAB and possibly getting a scholarship from UAB Baseball next year? I don't know. I also don't know if there were any thoughts or conversations about baseball at UAB for Craft this season.

Oh well.

I think AB will be 100% - at least that is what I’m hearing. He left today for Philadelphia (sports hernia surgery).

He's scheduled next week to have ankle surgery.

4-6 weeks he’ll be good to go.

Oh well.

Under NCAA rules, Craft can play baseball while on a football scholarship. That does not mean UAB will agree to that. An AU QB a few years ago quit FB and played baseball the rest of his years at AU.

Because football coaches used to put FB players on other sport scholarships to have more than allowed, the NCAA ruled that while FB scholarship players can play other sports, those other sport's scholarship players can't play FB. Years ago, Ron Widby, the punter on the FB team at UTK also played BB. UAB had the same situation a couple of years ago.

If Craft feels he won't be in the QB mix in 2013 and is not ready or willing to play another position, he needs to reach an accommodation with the two coaches involved or transfer.

Craft left the football team, so he cannot remain on football scholarship and play baseball. He could if he had remained on the football team, but he didn't.

He is transferring to a JUCO to play baseball (as I stated earlier).

I hate to see things work out that way. I cannot tell you how much I appreciated Craft's loyalty to UAB durning the coaching change. `I wish him nothing but the best. I hope that he finds a niche in baseball that lets him make it in the big league. He showed a lot of class.

Craft needed to do what was best for Craft from the beginning. I was pretty shocked he stayed at UAB given what was going on around him. I don't think I ever outright said this, but I never thought he would play a meaningful down at QB for UAB. He doesn't fit McGee's QB mold, and that's all there was to that. I wish him the best in the future, but I figured he was going to leave at some point.

I appreciated Craft's Belief, but I expected this even with absolutely no insider insight. By halfway through the season McGee could choose between a. the guy with 31 separate sidelining injuries, b. the guy who knew at best half the playbook and refused to learn more, and c. the guy who'd thrown 22 college passes and had 21 of them intercepted and returned for touchdowns. And two talented freshmen redshirting, yet zero discussion of abandoning the redshirt. That told me that he did not think either of those two would ever play here.

Neither of them were anywhere close to being able to contribute to the team this year. Not saying they didn't have potential. I think Greer could have developed into a good QB, but I don't think Craft would have ever started at any school in conference.

It sure does put a big "?" on our spring practice lineup and depth chart. How many others are of that same mind?

I'm not really. I think AB is the guy right now. If I wasn't after all the beating and Stache lashing I took this year....somebody would get "Sprewelled". Just kidding but not really.

I am the new kid may be good but it's ABs to lose. I mean c'mon.

As long as he's physically able, he's got a year in McGees system and should be ahead of anyone else.

As far depth goes, may be some cause for concern there but we will see. Let's beef up the OL and try not to let the starter get bombed like Afganistan 37 times per game. Let's start there, whadda y'all say?

If we can pound the rock out of the gate, they'd better respect that play-action fake.
