The other significant issue is that UAB pays rent and retains no parking fees and the City of Birmingham handles all catering and vendor relationships/contracts.
Not really The city of Birmingham still buys over $ 200,000 worth of tickets originally this was to offset a long time agreement to rent Legion field. Now our rent has been lowered to greater of 10 % of gate or $ 10,000 a game. So we gain about 150,000 a year from our rental agreement.
But we get no money from parking or from concessions. And while admittedly a lack of success on the field is the biggest reason for our attendance woes, poor concessions and challenges dealing with the parking nazis certainly has contributed to some people's poor impressions and experience with UAB football games.
At least with an OCS besides the increased revenue from parking and concessions, we would have more power in making adjustments to concessions and parking policies.

RE: Four On Campus Stadium related questions?
Everything about Legion Field is a disaster. Everything! Perception is important, and the general perception is Legion Field is a disaster.
It is a major disadvantage to the UAB football program. While the Railroad Park and the new Barons stadium are adding vitality to the Southside, UAB is stuck playing football games at damn Legion Field. The OCS would have been the shot in the arm to get UAB football over the hump.
The UA BOT popped that bubble, and they did it while smiling.
When was the last time the UA BOT put the UAT football program at a disadvantage? When?

So you agree. Saying that it should be condemned is an exaggeration.
The arguement for condeming the structure can be found here.

No. That's the argument for getting rid of the upper level. And they did that. That was the part of the structure that didn't follow modern building codes.
So sick of hearing about how bad Legion Field is. The area? Sure, it sucks. The staff? Okay. The stadium itself...not as bad as people want to make it out to be. There are far more unstable things in UAB Football than the stadium.
+ a gazillion. Drives me nuts.
