Better TV contract in CUSA.
More bowl tie-ins in CUSA.
I hate it, but I'd have my Bobcats jump to CUSA.
I'd rather stay in the SBC, but the grass right now for us is indeed greener there. The level of competition is better. But the money from CUSA (assuming it stays up there) and the Texas teams seals it for me.
+1 . . . The best solution (from a TEXAS perspective) would be for the Belt to add another Texas FB school . . . I think the conference can improve the "other stuff" over time . . .
But NOT Lamar or SHSU. Thats a step back to the Southland.
NOT LAMAR for sure, SHSU I wouldn't mind, they're playing good FB and it's always a pleasure to beat them . . . When TX Tech came to SM: 33,000 plus fans, TX ST @ Nutsack, almost 40,000 . . . we need another TX FB school in the Belt . . .

Unfortunately I am not the one one charge. My opinion is whoever gets the offer jumps. You can't stay knowing the guy behind you in line would love to take your spot and leave you in a watered down conference. I think the attitude and comments about the NOB just proves we are no better as conference than any of the rest when it comes to "me first". It would be foolish for MT or anybody else to turn down the invite knowing ULL or someone else would just take it as soon as we turned it down. Not trying to pick on ULL they're just already the whipping boy this week so no need to bring anyone else in the fold. I think this goes for all schools.
No offense stud, but we'll tell you when we're the whipping boy. UL thanks you for your concern.

aww shucks thanks. I have been called a stud and a tool by the great leader of lala land in the same week. This is special. Next thing you know my rep points will be moving which will complete the cycle of things I care nothing about.

RE: CUSA or Sun Belt?
I wish there was some way that the commissioners of the Sun Belt and CUSA could come together and work something out. Put everyone on a map and get a conference or two that make sense logistically and competitively. Work out the scheduling whether it is as one huge conference or two conferences. With the BCS going away there is no reason not to want to be in a tighter geographic conference other than preconceived fellings of superiority or pride.

I'm just afraid they won't choose the best two.
My money is on MT, FAU and USA being courted by other conferences. I'm still puzzled why USA's potential is not thrown around more as a candidate for the CUSA or BE. They have a great basketball tradition, large market, a Bowl game in their city and huge fertile recruiting ground in ALABAMA.
The current administration at USM and UAB are probably adamantly against it.
In don't think anyone is against USA, but the program is still brand new and we have added some of those already. Moblie is a bigger market and an easy drive for us.

RE: CUSA or Sun Belt?
Folks that keep mentioning Sam Houston State can put it to rest. They will NOT be moving anytime soon. They don't have the money, the facilities, or the fan support at this time. I will grant you an announcement of a move to FBS would increase fan support, but it won't upgrade the facilities quick enough, and the money won't come rolling in fast enough to get them ready.
It will take Stephen F. Austin moving up to push them forward in quick fashion.
Lamar on the other hand is pretty close to ready. They have some work to do, but as far as "FBS ready" I think them and App State are the ones best prepared.

True, and they do have some big donors with deep pockets waiting on the sidelines for the move to FBS. I don't think finances will be a problem for Lamar.

UTSA, Rice, Charlotte, etc. - NOT appealing. You think some of us have troubles now drawing fans to Sun Belt games. My previously mentioned teams would make matters worse! When the major CUSA teams left, I lost interest. The CUSA TV revenue will decline as will its payouts. I choose the Sun Belt.

I'll admit that I'm not crazy about Lamar, but if that's the only realistic option we have for another Sun Belt FB program in TX, I'll take it . . .
Really wish UTA would add FB, But that's not gonna happen anytime soon either . . . do believe that we need another TX FB Program in the Conference . . .

RE: CUSA or Sun Belt?
I make no statement about who I prefer, I am just talking about ability (read: money, facilities, etc) to move up.
Sam just isn't in a position to do so right now.
Given my druthers (of realistically attainable schools), I'd take Rice and UTEP. But UTEP ain't leaving CUSA for us, it would take two to move. And then, I don't see them leaving CUSA's television contract.
Throw in that adding those two will not really increase the attractiveness of the SBC television contracts, it's not going to happen.
I would be interested to see if Lamar could count towards having a foothold in the Houston market. I don't think so, but I believe the Lamar fans believe it will work. I just don't know.

UTSA is averaging over 20k even before they're FBS
Rice is a private school so no comment on their attendance they're here for baseball and academics
Charlotte is here for basketball tradition and being a previous member of CUSA.
Also our payouts may decrease but now that you have lost some of your teams and are doing your own startups then yours will also.
