I'm relieved. Our fanbase is demoralized after the second half of the season total collapse. A Bowl game would have been an embarrassment on the field and in the stands.

A bowl game is never a bad thing. What do you want to sell to recruits? Two straight seasons of being left out of the postseason despite being eligible, or having the first bowl in your back pocket? The recruits will not know or care that your fans didn't travel well(if indeed they don't) and while winning a bowl would be preferable to losing, I just can't see how not going would be preferable to going and losing.

RE: Today's Game updates
I want to be in a bowl game, who would not? You can almost reset with so much time between now and game anyway..If our defense played the way they did second half today, we would be fine...Plus the extra practice time is a huge deal....

Troy's gonna take this in the second half pretty easily so long as they do a better job of hanging onto the ball.

sorry amigo. you haven't been through the second half of this season. and don't compare last year when you stunk all year.

i'm totally fine with not bowling. just being honest. detroit has zero appeal.

we'd get our ass handed to us and i'd be dumb enough to waste money on it.

i walked out the drive before the pick 6. i couldn't take the pain any longer. i heard the roar as i walked past diddle arena and didn't even consider going back. hell.....the only reason i went today was to make sure jakes was never playing at smith stadium again.

i'm always glad we won in any sport.

i doubt any recruit we could pick up will decide on coming here simply because we went to detroit.

just my take on it.

p.s. we wouldn't have 1,000 people go to the motor city.

It's been a rough second half of the season, but a bowl game is a bowl game and to me Detroit would be excellent and here's why-

1) It's our first bowl EVER
2) I think we'd have a good shot at winning with so much time to reset between now and then
3) Bad attendance can be somewhat justified due to the distance; if we went to a closer bowl and had a bad showing it would reflect very poorly on us in the future.

I'm as disappointed as the next guy about how our season turned out, but it's still a heck of a turnaround from three years ago. You'd think we were in last place and hadn't beaten UK with some of the comments on here...

Our first bowl game was in Detroit and I had a blast despite cold weather and getting blown out by a superior CMU team.

Nearly every program that moves up to FBS thinks they are going to come in and rock the world with their FCS pedigree. Then there is cold reality.

FBS is hard. The Sun Belt is hard. Every year. We waited many years. Some of us were just too stubborn to walk away from demoralization.

I personally think WKU players have truly earned a bowl this year. I hope they get one. If they do get one, all of you need to get un-demoralized and go to it and not be embarrassed about being there for them and enjoy it because your team will have earned something very difficult....the hard way.

I agree, but don't count out Troy turning it over again...I keep thinking that their turnovers are over and done with and that they'll score a few unanswered scores and the game will be over...and then they turn it over again.
