Serious Question:

With Maryland gone, and NCST / VA TECH / FSU / CLEMSON / GA TECH rumored to be next, how are you feeling now about the ACC?

Still excited about conference tournaments in Greensboro?

Would it make any sense to turn back, with PITT and possibly ND to the BIG EAST, now? What if Aresco could guarantee the same TV $$$$?

Could this be what Aresco is working on?

EAST
Syracuse
Pitt
Temple
UConn
Louisville
Cinicinnati
USF
UCF

WEST
Memphis
SMU
Houston
Boise St.
SDSU
Navy
Air Force
BYU

Throw in ND - and basketball is 20 members. Viola - problems solved.

I know Syracuse for a long time thought they would get a Big 10 invite. Did they move too soon to the ACC? Would they have gotten a invite or was the Big 10 looking for the Washington DC & NYC metro area tv markets? Unfortunately for Syracuse they are located in central NY state with a smaller population.

RE: To Syracuse Fans:
Syracuse was recently booted out of the AAU. That basically killed any B1G hopes.
Syr got kicked out because we didn't have enough public/federally- funded research projects. We're a private university and do more than enough private-funded research. Theat really made the ACC the best option (If we had to leave the BE).

Clearly the B1G wanted ND but lost it to the ACC. I don't see how B1G adding MD and Rutgers spells the death of conferences as we know them. MD was bankrupt- basically and someone offers you the highest pay check in college sports/ You say yes. Same for Rutgers.

Md is a slap in the face to the ACC. But ND is a slap in the face to the B1G. So I guess they are even now.

Every move made by every team is a slap in the face.

Okay. What if UNC & GT go to the B1G, Clemson & FSU go to the Big XII and NCSt & VA Tech go to the SEC? Then are you gonna still want to be in the ACC?

Enjoy those Wake Forest games.

Outside of Virginia Tech none of those schools matter to Syracuse. If anything you will see Notre Dame bring Syracuse, Boston College, and Pittsburgh to the Big 12 to join FSU, Clemson, and West Virginia.
Texas will control the Western half of the Big 12 with TCU being the most likely candidate to go to the East.

If not the ACC is still Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, and Boston College with Miami, Duke, and Wake Forest which is still a superior conference to what the Big East is for SYRACUSE.

What are you talking about? It certainly isn't a slap in the face to see largely underachieving, financially irresponsible athletic programs parlay their geographic location into a huge pay day. It certainly isn't a slap in the fact to see an athletic department do every thing it can (i.e. run a compliant athletic department, have success across the board in numerous sports, spend hundreds of million of dollars of its own money to build top notch facilities, have a profitable athletic department with a budget larger than any of the ACC's current full-member schools, etc) and be told that none of it matters because the market stinks. It certainly isn't a slap in the face to see schools cashing huge checks because 100 years ago they happened to join the right conference.

Sorry for the derail. I sometimes forget that these non-profit institutions of higher education tout performance on the field and fairness, but base their entire decision-making process is based on profit motives.

No question Syracuse has been working hard for a Big Ten invite. Look at our NYC Branding, Big Ten non-conference scheduling, and Meadowlands deal over the last decade for proof.

I do not feel going with the ACC was a poor choice as that is a better athletic fit for Syracuse. If the conference is torn down after the fact the remaining members (Pittsburgh, Boston College, Duke, Wake Forest, etc) are STILL a better fit for Syracuse than the Big Ten or New Big East. Both Rutgers and Syracuse are where they belong if you rebooted this thing from Scratch.

The one issue regarding NYC and the Big Ten network I would make is who is picking up a year long subscription in a pro-sports market to watch 12 Rutgers football games? I get they have pull in NYC but you are not getting subscribers. That is why adding Syracuse after the fact is still a good deal as you bring in year round interest due to Basketball and Lacrosse which are important in the NY-DC area. Especially if the whole goal is to bundle with YES. YES customers are watching Yankees from March to October so September to November Rutgers coverage is pointless but September to April Syracuse coverage is a profit maker.

Nonsense. We're a small private university with less than 15,000 undergrads. We have no business in the LandGrant10. SU would be a terrible fit.

You're aware that SU had a bunch of non-conf games scheduled against ACC schools (BC and Ga Tech for starters). Perhaps our NYC marketing is what drew Swofford's attention.

How is scheduling USC and ND in the Meadowlands proof of anything?

It's proof that our AD saw an opportunity to make some extra $$$. That's about it.

We were never on the B1G's radar. Not last year. Not even now.

Gross is a football AD with ties to USC and the Pac-12. He could care less about basketball which is why leaving the Big East is not that big of a deal. He wants football prestige without regard for "fit". Since he took over we have played the Pac-12 more than the ACC and the Big Ten 12 times compared to twice for the ACC. He wants that Big Ten/Pac-12 Rose Bowl connection.

But please dont let fact checking get in your way.

lets wait to see if that actually happens before jumping to conclusions because 1 team with no money took the bigten money. Espn has a vested interest in the acc and will keep the acc from being decimated like that.
