RE: Who wants to see the Big East destroyed?
Because the catholic basketball schools should be in their own conference with like minded schools and should stop leeeching off the football schools with whom they have little in common with. This whole football/basketball hybrid thing worked for a while but you could tell it wasnt going to work anymore yet they kept clinging to it and now its a mess that needs to be blown up.

I want to see the BE football conference destroyed because I don't want to have to watch as many Villanova games against Houston, SMU, UCF, and USF as against Marquette, Georgetown, St. Johns, and Providence.

I could care less if they do or not, I'm happy to see SMU in it because of the money to be made but other than that the conference has no appeal to me, I'd rather see some western teams that want to split from the nMWC and bring Boise, SDSU, SMU, and Houston along for the ride.

My Dream conference for SMU;
1.Boise State
2. BYU
3. Fresno State
4. SDSU
5. Nevada
6. SMU
7. Houston
8. Tulsa
9. UNLV
10. SJSU/UNT/UTSA

It'd be a good football and basketball conference.

RE: Who wants to see the Big East destroyed?
I don't think Big East football would be destroyed simply because there are too many pieces available.

Even if the Big East was reduced beyond the point where football was viable, those schools could join the WAC if something needed to be done hastily for 2014 or 2015:

Idaho (doesn't go through with Big Sky)
New Mexcio State
Boise State (possibly football only)
San Diego State (possibly football only)
Memphis
Houston
SMU
Utah Valley (no football)
Denver (no football)
Seattle (no football)
Cal-State Bakersfield (no football)

Connecticut replaces Maryland in the ACC; Louisville and Cincinnati to the Big 12; South Florida and Temple replace Florida State and Clemson in the ACC

At this point the WAC would only need one more, and there would still be a good probability that a school like Central Florida would be left behind and would be open to being a football only member. Even Navy might not want to go independent so quickly after canceling a bunch of games. There could be another western football-only member from the Big East that may be orphaned as well.

Because of NBE'ers smugness....though I'm sure this still falls squarely in their favor.

RE: Who wants to see the Big East destroyed?
Big East Football that I grew up watching does not exist anymore. Being a WVU fan from family connections it was nice back in the day when WVU, VT, Miami, Boston College, Syracuse, Pitt, Rutgers etc. played but those days are long gone. I say this as an ECU fan who would love to join this New Big East but to me Boise St, San Diego St, Navy, Memphis, SMU, Houston, UCF etc.. is not Big East Football. On the flip side the ACC I grew up is no longer the ACC but a hybrid of the former Big East and the old ACC.
I think the move to the 4 Super Conferences will destroy the Big East if your definition of destruction is being marginalized to the point of belonging to the group of have nots

Villanova really didn't pick a good time to rebuild. This season is going to be painful.

that's the thing. I don't think the Catholics have a whole lot of leverage like they used to.

OneSock,

Do you think it is just bad recruiting or not developing those recruits?
Jay has a solid class on paper coming in next year but if I were a Nova fan I would be very concerned about size next year...Ochefu is the only big on the roster for 2013 right?

Temple has the same issues...hard to recruit bigs this day and age...Lee is good but watson is an unknown for next year...
