You consider St. Louis and Lehigh tough OOC games against quality opponents? Lol. They may have had decent records last year, but that does not make for tough OOC games.

BTW how did Tony Mitchell fare in the NCAA Tournament

.......

I know Tony Mitchell is good. UNT will be good. I think my pick to win the league is MT though. ( Although I'm sure Keemit will blow it).

But, St Louis is avsolutely a massive test and challenging opponent. They were an at large team into the dance last year. Beat Memphis and return almost their entire team.

I think UNT is really good. But I think SLU wll be double digit favorites.

Yes I consider Saint Louis and Lehigh quality OC opponents. Saint Louis is rated #26 in the pre-season coaches poll and #28 in the AP. Lehigh is rated ahead of every Belt team by several rating services.

I hope all of you really relish those wins against NT last year. Outside of Mitchell not having any practice time before he joined the team and two of NT best players being academically disqualified the second semester and NT finishing with 3 ship guards; there was no reason for NT not to dominate the league last year. I can also add NT had one starter return and he played very little because of injury.

This year you are hopefully going to have to play a team that has actually practiced together and appears to be very deep. I predict Mitchell and Jones will be the best two players in the league. NT will lose some but it is not going to be like last year.

I find it very strange that a WKU fan, who are known for their very high bball IQs, is the one to laugh at Lehigh and St. Louis.

RE: Not Again !
I think UNT is loaded and not just loaded in talent but talent in all the key spots. The last SBC team loaded like this heading into a season was the 2001-02 WKU team and WKU lived up to the preseason hype and if not for the injury to Chris Marcus could have very easily went undefeated during the season.

Chris played on a bum ankle in the Creighton 2 OT loss (still took a really bad call to lose that game) and Western loss a 5 point game @Vandy 5 days later in the first game without Marcus then a 3 point loss to a bad USA team.

For UNT it's put up or shut up time because you had talent before and didn't live up to it...not this much talent but still enough to make some noise and laid a egg. Honestly even with UNT leaving the SBC I hope you do live up to the hype and run through the Belt...because I would hate to see that much talent playing in the NIT after losing in the SBC tourney. No matter what happens during the season I really don't think UNT will cake walk through the conference tourney.

As for the muts... Kermit is still the coach and I really expect them to go back to their 15 to 17 win season. Sometimes a team gets better when the star leaves. This won"t be one of those times because the "star" was the key to making the pieces around him better by taking the heat off them. When Chris Marcus went down WKU still had leaders on that team and a coach so they continue to win. Muts have neither.

I am very aware that St. Louis was very good last year, and that Lehigh beat Duke in the tourney last year. But that was last year. A lot happens from one year to the next especially at programs that are not traditionally strong. Lehigh was a 15 seed last year, meaning they had no quality wins until Duke. Maybe they got hot one night? Happens all the time in the tourney. St.Louis ill give you looks decent on paper, but it is hard to sustain success at places that usually don't have success. I see them taking a step back this year. Just my two cents.

The toughest NCAA hoops non-conference schedules

5. North Texas

Top matchups: at No. 15 Creighton (Nov. 9), NIT Season Tip-Off (Nov. 12-23), at St. Louis (Dec. 5), vs. Lehigh (Dec. 20)

Analysis: Yes, North Texas. The biggest criticism of mid-majors every year is that they don't load up their schedules aggressively with high-RPI opponents. North Texas shouldn't have that issue thanks to a competitive NIT Season Tip-Off schedule that could square the Mean Green up with Kansas State and with an upset, against Virginia and Michigan/Pittsburgh. North Texas also plays a mid-major gauntlet schedule, starting at Creighton before traveling to a Saint Louis team flirting with the top-25, and hosting a C.J. McCollum-led Lehigh team.

I hate to burst your bubble, but it ain't gonna be this year. We will be stronger.......... Book It-- including at least two wins against the Hoppers.

Good guard play in the Belt is paramount, and MT is stacked with two lock-down PG's, and a couple of the best trey-shooters in the conference. Also get 6-6 former All-SBC starting guard back this season (after an injury to his back last season).

More fouls (5) than points (3) and
more turnovers (5) than rebounds (4)

Those are some pretty impressive stats for such an elite player.
