I had quite a few classes during my freshman/sophomore year (graduated 2010) with a guy on the team. He was from the czech republic and was like number 2 in the world at slalom. Pretty crazy that we have 24 out of 34 championships.

Congrats to ULM - National Champions (again)
The lake is on campus and all the students and town sees them training, so it means something to them and the town.

Congrats on the win.

Back in the 80's tournament water skiing was still on ESPN. Wake boarding killed three event water skiing because it brought competitive water sports back to public water. Cable expanded and competitive water sports slide down the network chain and finally most of the pro money died out.

The cost of a boat and a private lake has killed the once popular sport.

Long story to say there are a lot of world class athletes involved. There are national & world champions and pan american game winners that live and train right here in little rock and in shreveport. We all skied for local schools like ulm, la tech, texas, ok st, and lsu.

For a lot of the kids it provides free school to this day, just like swimming, golf, or any other sport that is not football, bb, or baseball.

Yea, there is bowling, golf, and a ton of other sports that are not bb, baseball or football.

This is as big a deal as winning a championship in any other non-big 3 sport.

Hey man, it's great for the students, we all have our club sports we're proud of. Troy has their rodeo, MT has had success in rugby(think Arkansas State has as well) but not all championships are created equal to anyone not involved or tied to the championships.

football/MBB

WBB/baseball

women's volleyball/men's soccer/women's soccer

everything else...

Denver won a ton of national championships in downhill skiing and that actually is NCAA sanctioned, no one cared about that either. No disrespect intended to the students or ULM fans who are proud, but winning a club sport national championship is on the same level as winning a debate team or mock trial championship.

ULM offers full ride scholarships for this sport and attracts the best in the world to come to ULM. It also does not hurt that we have a bayou that runs through the campus and is their practice field. No one else that I am aware has that advantage.

Disregard the water skiing, it's not a NCAA sanctioned sport. You could tell me you had 100 national championships in candyland, 50 national championships in tiddlywinks, and 30 national championships in pickup sticks and I'd be equally impressed. The football was, what? FCS and like two decades ago? Which reminds me, I need to amend my previous rankings.

FBS football/MBB

WBB/baseball/FCS football

lower division football/women's volleyball/men's soccer/women's soccer

everything else...

Middle Tennessee won a men's doubles tennis national championship like five or six years ago...bigger deal than all 24 water skiing championships, but no one really cared still.

Helps me what? What does the attractiveness of a few of the team members have to do with the impressiveness of the team achievement. They could all be bikini models or they could all be the size of linebackers, wouldn't change anything.

Which one is your favorite?

I actually thought it was the chest hair you'd gravitate towards, but whatever man.

nobody cares about water skiing.

has nothing to do with butthurt either.

western has won numerous national championships in forensics and nobody gives a crap.

football, hoops, and baseball.

middle can claim women's hoops.

glad it makes you guys happy but nobody else cares.

i personally love cross-country. western is pretty good in that. but water skiing as a sport is hilarious.
