In-state rival fans being jerks
All right, on the C-USA boards, we made a thread where everybody ranted about ******** from In-State schools. Here was my award-winning rant on Texas schools from a Houston and UNT perspective:

Eagle Green Wrote:Every school in Texas likes to refer to UH as Cougar High. Even though our admissions standards are higher than half the schools that call us that. 03-bored

UT--The Evil Orange Empire...no explanation needed.
-----------------------------------------
Aggy---Maroon Cult...again no explanation needed.
----------------------------------------
SMU are dicks to everybody not Whorn or Aggy. If it rained they would drown. They TRULY believe they are on par with Whorn and Aggy. They explain the reason for their poor showing at The Rob for the Game of the week last year was "I don't want to get robbed when going to Cougar High' football stadium." or "I'm afraid of getting jumped by the Kitty Thugs." And apparently we only won because "Our star player Zach Line as injured and you have a 34 year old quarterback who's been running that offense for 8 years."

I hate SMU fans so much, it's not even funny. THough I go to Ponyfans every now and then for a good laugh.

------------------------------------------------
Baylor. Baylor. Baylor. They love to make threads about old Cougar High. Even though their beloved RG3 committed to Houston over Baylor until Briles left. Yet they don't want to talk about why they got into the Big 12 over Houston, Rice, TCU and SMU at the time. 03-lmfao
------------------------------------------------
Rice...LOL...Rice is not even worth mentioning.
------------------------------------------------
Texas Tech hates Whorn and Aggy too much to focus on us much, but when we do come up. They get sensitive.
-------------------------------------------------
TCU is a rather quiet bunch. Mainly because they've been playing almost exclusively out of state teams until recently. Since they're in the Big 12, the douchebags will be appearing soon.
--------------------------------------------------
Nobody in Texas cares about UTEP all that much since they're too isolated from the rest of the state. But they're a few steps above the FCS Texas schools.
---------------------------------------------------
UTSA and Texas State just moved up a step above the Texas FCS schools. They're going to be our whipping boys for quite a while.
----------------------------------------------------
Lamar, Sam Houston and SFA are the FCS Texas schools. None of us big boys care about them other than to run the score up occasionally. They strive to be like us someday.
-------------------------------------------------------

Since a lot of Sun Belt schools are in the middle of SEC country, I'm sure they have a lot to contribute to this thread. All right guys, tell me about in-state folks from your perspective.

ut-knoxville - never would've heard of the term 'butt-chugging' except for the existence of utk fans. Another type of utk fan (NSFW), orange, drunk, loud, and obnoxious. The last few years have been tough on the utk fans (lane kiffin, bruce pearl, and Pat Summit's Alzheimers).

vanderbilt - vandy fans (this is the image I have when I think of vandy fans). When talking football, they always want to talk academics... Famous for dropping contracted series when they lose.

Memphis - mbb is claim to fame, but their accomplishments in that sport only happen when they cheat like hell. Football sucks. Yet their fans have an overblown perception of where they are as an athletic program.

RE: In-state rival fans being jerks
I honestly dont think the Florida schools have that many issues. The In-State schools will play us and at the moment there seems to be 3 Tiers.

1.) UF, FSU
2.) USF, UM
3.) UCF, FAU, FIU

UCF moving to a former AQ confrence will probably get bumped into Tier 2. All the school will play each other. Now it would be interesting if USF, UCF, FAU or FIU made a BCS Buster run what would happen then. UM with its past glory should rise back up to Tier 1 at some point.

So let me get this right, Eagle Green... You are complaining about other school fans being jerks, but your whole post is being jerks to other teams? UTSA and Texas State is going to be your whipping boys for a while? Lamar, Stephen F Austin and Sam Houston State strive to be you and you don't care other than to run up the score on them?

I'm so excited about playing FAU to open the season next year at the U. I hope you all bring a good amount of fans. I love my SBC schools.

While Cajun fans and Warhawk fans will trade barbs (some nice and some not so nice) and both of us will have some pretty "not so nice" things to say about Tech, I really can't stand most LSU fans. I gets me so fired up when people assume that because I am from Louisiana that I am a LSU fan. I cheer for whoever they are playing.

It is funny. I saw some postings from LSU fans who wondered what they were in for at Texas A&M and their fans. I guess they wanted to not be heckled or harrassed. Real funny considering some of the horror stories I have heard from people who have gone to Baton Rouge.

it will be good to finally play Miami, would be better if we were doing better to make it more competitive. But next year is a whole 'nother year, more of Pelini's kids will be in place and a couple big guys sitting out to make an impact next year as well.

and no fights! 04-cheers

LSU - Students actually enrolled there are actually, for the most part, enjoyable to be around and will root for in-state schools. It's the general population of Louisiana trash that root for them that always give me bad experiences. The Flagship Agenda is just a pretty phrase that can be translated to keeping the foot on the throat of other public universities in LA.

La Tech - I've never ran into a Louisiana Tech fan, but their online fans (save for a few) make me reach for eye bleach multiple times a day. We throw the word delusional around a lot, but those cats must have found some source of liquid delusion that can act as a substitute for water.

ULM - Probably the most timid fan-base in LA. Pardon the lack of tact, but I always imagine them as a victim of domestic abuse, that will just tell everyone it was an accident and that Joe didn't mean them no harm. They do more with less and stay competitive, but wish their administration would step up and make a commitment to athletics. I respect their educational programs.

An introspective look into my own university: Probably the most defensive group of fans, quick to pull the trigger on any comment taken as a slight. Chances are the Cajun poster you hate the most online, would probably be the friendliest person you would meet in person. If you see a person with a Cajun shirt on, there's a 50% chance they absolutely hate LSU with all that they've got.

My thought was at least the Texas government doesn't actively play favorites with institutions of higher learning. They want all of them to get great institutions and thrive. I've always been a little jealous to be honest.

Are you kidding me? Texas U and Texas A & M have their feet on our heads at all times. The state of Texas has to throw out a few crumbs for the rest of us.

They all play favorites. You just have extremes from Florida where they play their instate little guys and give money to those schools to Alabama where Tuscaloosa would outlaw all other schools if it could.

When was the second win?

All Time, TX ST is 4-1 on Houston.

1946 St. 21 Coogs 7
1947 St. 2 Coogs 0
1948 St. 3 Coogs 0
2010 St. 28 Coogs 68
2012 St. 30 Coogs 13

For what it's worth . . . .

I think the Florida tier system looks more like this:
1. UF, FSU
1a. UM, USF
2. UCF
3. FAU, FIU
4. FGCU, UNF
5. UWF, UT, JU, FSC, FIT, Ava Maria, etc....
Not this is STRICTLY athletics, if academia was incorporated, UM, UT, UF, JU, and FSU would be up top.

And when it comes to the FAU UM game, expect a good amount of us in navy blue to make the trip down. After all Joe Robbie was our home stadium before it was y'alls 03-wink lol
But really, I can't wait.

Personally, I root for all Florida schools except for FIU. We (the state) need to regain our dominance as the #1 state for football.

RE: In-state rival fans being jerks
Let’s see…..

Big Brother: The only team I hate. LSU fans are the most obnoxious, self-absorbed, trailer trash ilk I have ever encountered. The ones who never went there (AKA “Paper Tigers”) are worse, and the ones who graduated from ULM, ULL, or Tech and don’t support their Alma Mater are the absolute worst. They are the only school in the state whose fans treat the opponent like trash (yelling “Tiger-bait) instead of welcoming them during the tailgate. Also, Baton Rouge is a 01-rivals-hole.

Step Brother ULL: I like these guys; they know how to party. Mind you, I used to manage Olde Tyme Grocery and when we were supposed to wear red on Fridays to support the Cajun’s I still wore my red Tech polo. I always caught looks but no one was ever rude, which is a testament to their temperament. The only trash talk thing I have to say about the Cajuns is that cajunhawk is an idiot.
03-nutkick

Step Brother ULM: You guys crack me up. One of my clients is a ULM grad/high school ball coach who is as cool as they come. He’s bringing his team to the Tech game this weekend after taking them to ULM two weekends ago. However, the last time I went to Malone Stadium (when Tech last played there) we got spit on while walking in…..I’ll NEVER go back. I’m old enough to remember the bomb threats of the 90’s too. Sure, we both have our nitwits…but I just don’t understand why some of the ULM faithful are so damn bitter. Get over it.
