The #1 pick does not alternate. The NO Bowl gets the #1 pick. Period. The only caveat is they must take the champion twice in a four year period.

This is the first I've ever heard anyone dispute New Orleans and GoDaddy alternating years of having the first pick of bowl eligible SBC schools. I thought that was pretty much a known fact.

I don't know if it was discussed here but it certainly was dicussed in the media. As I stated, you don't know as much as you think you do in concerns with the NO Bowl.

Two different threads in which people talk about the first choice rotating between the two bowls. With all due respect, I'm going to take the word of arkstfan over yours.

Again, this is the first I've ever even heard someone not knowing about the picks rotating.

Yes, butts in seats is a major factor, but it is not the only one. Even if the NOB believes Louisiana will bring more fans into the building, that doesn't guarantee you guys get the nod. If they believe ULM can bring reasonably close to the same numbers, say...85%, but believe that ULM will attract more television viewers based on their "story" this season, ULM could get the call."

This isn't about ArkSt fan, you once again made statements that were opinion and presented them as fact. That my friend is talking out your backside!

The link below was when the last agreement was signed with the N.O. Bowl. It doesn't list the specifics, but it looks like the agreement gives the decision making rights to the N.O. Bowl.

Ok.

You're right and I'm wrong. Christ... I really could not care less about whether or not the NOB will take the Cajuns or Warhawks given the opportunity to take them both. I understand why you guys are confident they'll take you, if I were in your position, I'd probably feel the same way. I was just trying to offer an opposing view. Please show me where I ever said "The New Orleans Bowl will take the Warhawks over the Cajuns". I simply offered up ideas as to how it might play out differently. In the point you highlighted the final words I said were ULM could get the call. Purely speculative, but you're right, I'm presenting my opinions as fact. My opinion is, that there are scenarios in which ULM could be selected over Louisiana, clearly that opinion is coming out of my backside and has zero place in reality. Thank you for setting me straight.

Fair enough, its time to move on. Its okay to have a position or opposing view, just present them in that manner. I'm not always correct either, but I'm not challenging Cajun fans on what I thought is a known fact. There are people that have inside information from UL's conversations with the NO Bowl on this board and BOP is one of them.

My only question would be whether UL could continually bring 20K to the bowl.

Did you just say you brought forty three thousand more than 20 thousand...? I'm confused.

Obama? Really? Why open that can of worms? Surely you could have found another way to frame your point...05-nono

Okay...something you need to understand about me. I know you'll find this shocking...I really enjoy civil discourse and I have a habit of turning the simplest things into debates when they really don't need to be, but due to that I tend to speak with a great deal of conviction and can beleaguer points. I also frequently look for opportunities to play devil's advocate. It's been suggested that I should be in politics or law school, but I don't think I have the stomach for the former or the patience for the latter. I briefly entertained the idea of figuring out exactly how one becomes a lobbyist...but meh...anyway...I'm sure we'll butt heads again at some time, so just consider what I've just said to be a disclaimer of sorts...just because I frequently speak like I know I'm right, or continually look for what I might consider to be holes in your argument, doesn't necessarily mean that I think you're wrong, just consider it me giving you further opportunities to prove your point...04-cheers

Here I go playing devil's advocate again(and please, baring in mind everything I've just admitted take me at my word that this is an honest question with no implication) do you think there's any chance the NOB folks could have been placating or stroking the ego of the Louisiana folks? I'm not even asking if you think that's specifically what was going on, just whether or not you think it's possible that it could have been going on.

RE: NO Bowl Question
Bowls care about money and who can bring them the most money. Period. Everything else comes a very distant second.

How else do you explain the BCS bowl bending its rules to allow a non-conference champion into the title game last year?

What are you talking about "bending its rules"? It's not as if it hadn't happened before. Oklahoma back in...2003?

If it were truly money first and foremost and everything else was a distant second and bowls could just "bend the rules" explain Boise State, TCU, Utah, Hawaii, Pitt, UCONN...

All of them have been to BCS games recently, a couple of them multiple times.

You had a better overall record last year than WKU. Western did NOT win the Sun Belt. If they did, they would have been guaranteed a spot in either the NO or Go Daddy bowls.

Bowls don't like taking the same team multiple years, especially if there is a team that is also close by that hasn't been there. ULM qualifies. You guys likely will both finish 2-2 in OOC. Whoever finishes with the best conference record is likely to be the first choice of the NO Bowl.

But since the GoDaddy Bowl took the champion last year, I think the NO Bowl has to take the champion this year. Unless there is a trade with another bowl etc.

So it might be WKU in the New Orleans Bowl.

No doubt I have no idea who will win the conference, right now I lean towards WKU who lost it on an awful call against ASU last year.

Assuming ULM wins it there is not a doubt in my mind they bring not half of what the Cajuns brought last year, and I can assure you the people at the New Orleans Bowl will take the Cajuns if at all possible. That is just a fact. The New Orleans Bowl has been drooling for a UL game since the inception, and it played out exactly like they thought it would.

I am not in saying this trashing the War Hawks or their fans, just telling you like it is. If ULM promises 20K fans well maybe.

How many folks does the city of Monroe (metro area) take to the Dome for West Monroe High championship games ?

I'm not sure if they count individual sessions, but according to the Dome website - the total is somewhere north of 50K for five games played over 2 days.

And, we had 42,000 fans with only about 200 people from San Diego State. Make that game against a regional opponent and we get over 50,000. That is why the N.O. Bowl is drooling over LOUISIANA. No other SBC team can deliver those kind of numbers and hasn't to date.

New Orleans bowl doesn't have to take the champion this year. New Orleans bowl will take who it thinks will sell the most tickets. Bottom line. Now, a NOLA bowl representative could very well think that ULM will sell more tickets to the game than the Cajuns.

But, there decision will be made on ticket sales. If neither WKU nor the Cajuns win the Sunbelt and the Toppers have a better record in conference and overall than the Cajuns. The Cajuns will go to the NOLA bowl if both teams are bowl eligible I promise.

So WKU can finish second in the conference go 9-3 and stay home because they have no chance of going to the NO Bowl over a 7-5 ULL? The GoDaddy bowl isn't owned by the SBC (unlike the NO Bowl). What do the other members of SBC get from the NO Bowl if its always - bring ULL every year they get to 7-5, and just use the rest of the league as backup? Why would they even bother being in the conference if they can't participate in its' bowls?

Its ridiculous on its face.

Why have a SBC bowl tie in with the NO Bowl then? Why not just have a bowl tie in for ULL?

If ULM or WKU (two teams that have never been to a bowl) stay home with a record tying or beating ULL or Troy or MTSU or stAte (teams that have been to bowls), then all hell is going to break loose. As well it should. If all three teams had been to recent bowls, then perhaps ULL's proven ability to put fannies in the seats would give you a bit of an advantage...but this year...not so much.

You know there ARE two conferences that might be interested in WKU....Do you really think that the conference is going to back ULL up versus WKU if it came to that? Yes, your great attendence last year matters. But I guarantee you that the Conference DOES have a say in this. Especially in the New Orleans Bowl (founded and partly funded by conference - unlike the GoDaddy Bowl - which is funded by the City of Mobile and private sponsors).

The problem is that we don't have enough bowl slots. But you aren't going to find much sympathy for demanding special treatment over teams that have never been to bowls. Especially if you don't finish above them in conference record, and overall record.

I hope we find bowl slots for all our eligible teams. But ULM and especially WKU are going to get tie breakers this year.

Here it is pure and simple, the SBC champion goes to the NO Bowl if it receives no other bids. So your premise is out of line once the champ gets another bowl. at that point the NO Bowl is free to pick anybody it wants. In the event that say ULM wins the conference and gets the NO Bowl because everyone else rightly understands they won't travel, then at that point any bowl eligible team gets an invite purely on the perceived value.

Wrong Way Waters could have lobbied for UL to get a bowl a few years back, but did not, but did for FAU. Now we have shown we will travel if the distance is reasonable.

Bottom line folks UL is clearly the NO Bowl favorite if we have a decent record, and the champ is getting a bowl regardless New Orleans or Mobile maybe. I can see Middle, WKU, and maybe ASU would be favorites of the Music City Bowl if they are looking. So what, that is the way the geography and money works.

There were a lot more from SDSU than 200, I would say more like 3000 were there. They filled the entire East side of the bowl about 36 rows up and from the twenty to the twenty.
