Never seen that video; now I see what you're saying.

It is awesome. I may be being a homer, but I think ULM's is the best in the Belt and it ties together the hawk and Warhawk plane.

Why is the actual "Hawk" used?

If its named after the warplane why not have the plane be the symbol?

Both the Hawk and Warhawk plane are used as symbols on campus.

Yeah, Ive seen that I guess I just dont understand why there is both? I think the Warplane angle is much cooler then the bird.

Maybe it's a situation much like ours, where we have the Owl and the Atlantic, or Blue Wave" logos and references all over campus.

Here is some background that may help. When we had to go for a name change, the vote was for Warhawks. The link was to Claire Lee Chennault, leader of the Flying Tigers, hence the P40 Warhawk airplane. Chennault was born in Texas but raised in a couple of small towns in northeast Louisiana (Gilbert and Waterproof). Warhawk is also a reference to a bird (plane/bird) so you need a mascot that can move around the fans, etc. So, you have the P40 Warhawk and Chennault and then you have a mascot that is a Hawk itself. When you see the mascot, he is wearing a WWII fighter pilot jacket.

RE: Opening Intro from your games...
The Chenault family owned a hardware store in St. Joseph in Tensas Parish. I just assumed he was from there. Then again that is pretty close to both Gilbert and Waterproof, so he could have lived in either of those while having the St. Joseph store.

TROY's intros always suck. Last years was pretty good in the beginning, but then they finished it with some rap song.

Yes, awesome to see a hero like Chennault honored in this way. The story of the Flying Tigers has always been a favorite of mine since I was a kid and saw John Wayne in the movie of the same name.
