UConn dropped an away game against Western Michigan and scheduled a home game with Murray state, a 1AA school.

Is UCONN looking for an easy home win to start a season?

Not very classy at all! First, UCONN dropped a game at Toledo for this fall. Now they drop a game at Western Michigan and the Broncos have to find a replacement still. They dropped WMU for a I-AA team!!!

They are afraid of losing to a good MAC school. The only MAC school they left on their schedule was a home game against Buffalo; a MAC school they know they can beat.

UCONN football is a disgrace to the Big East! Shame on you guys!!!!

Actually, it looks like this was WMU's request to drop their game with UConn. WMU's athletic director Kathy Beauregard said it was a good business decision because they will save about $60-80 thousand dollars by playing a 1-AA team.

UConn doesn't get much benefit from this other than another home game. Seems to be in their better interest to face tougher competition. Other than an easy win vs. a 1-AA team it won't help their strength of schedule any. They were just accommodating WMU's request.

BTW - rocket - it's obvious that bug you have up your @ss regarding UConn dropping the Toledo game is not gonna die anytime soon, but please get some of the facts straight before you pass judgement.

You are right about WMU dropping the game and I apologize. The first I heard about it was from WMU fans that didn't know the real story and thought UCONN dropped them. I am man enough to admit when I am wrong and apologize.

As for a bug up my arse.......well UCONN told our AD the reason they were dropping Toledo was because now that they are in the Big East they have adopted a policy to not play a MAC school in football. At the same time you kept WMU (until the dropped the game) and Buffalo on your schedule.

It is obvious that was a lie that was told to our AD. How do I know this? He (our AD) told the owner of toledorockets.com this in an interview.

As for WMU dropping this game.....they are very dumb. They think they are gonna save $80K by playing a I-AA school? Well, they will lose that much money in attendance for one thing. Also do you think BCS schools, especially UCONN, will want to sign a series with WMU again? Not to play at WMU, that's for sure. They have dropped a I-A home game for a I-AA home game so I don't want to ever hear them complain when they can't get quality I-A teams to play them at WMU. Even most of the WMU fans are furious with their AD over this.

I do not have anything against UCONN though. I am glad you won the men's and women's b-ball championships. In fact, I routed for both teams in the championship game. I was excited when Toledo signed a 1 for 1 with UCONN for football and our fans seemed to like the idea of UCONN coming to Toledo in 2004. I am sure we would have had between 30-35K for the game.

So yes, I was pissed when UCONN dropped the Rockets and unfortunately for the Huskies I heard that they will or already have paid the Toledo to get out of the contract. What pissed me off the most was when UCONN's AD lied to our AD about not playing any MAC schools anymore. It appears that they just didn't want to play Toledo. After all, they backed out of the contract within a few weeks of Toledo beating Pittsburgh here in Toledo last fall.

Sorry, but WMU doing what they did in this situation with UCONN won't change the fact that UCONN obviously did not want to play Toledo. If you ask me both WMU and UCONN are making big mistakes.

Looks like WMU will play Tennessee-Martin, a 1-AA team as UConn's replacement game.

As for Toledo, I don't think it was a slight against their football program. You can't ignore the fact that UConn entering the BE a year early shifted many things around. Whether our AD lied to Toledo or not remains to be seen. Our coach Randy Edsall said he accommodated WMU's request to drop our game because the MAC has been helpful the last 4 years to UConn's 1-A transition. Plus the Buffalo and WMU series were already underway when the Big East move happened last year.

But I admit myself here that I don't know all the facts. We'll see how it turns out - good luck to Toledo this season.

I hear ya, but don't forget that the UT/UCONN series called for 1 game in Toledo in 2004 and 1 at UCONN in 2005. At that time UCONN was going to be a Big East school for 2005, so moving into the Big East in 2004 shouldn't have really affected our series; you already knew you would be in the Big East for the return trip to UCONN in '05.

Good luck this fall, except for against Buffalo. Gotta cheer for the MAC there.
