Nobody credible has ever mentioned a signing bonus for the B12. Why wouldn't there have been one for the initial contract too then?

Chuck Neinas mentioned it. I'd kind of think he'd know....

60 million spread out over the 1st 3 years. Or 20 million per year....

If they haven't signed yet how do they have it already?

good point...

But the point still remains..... Wouldn't be shocked if this same thing was in the new ACC deal.... You have to admit- getting 20 million extra here would be a very good thing for ACC/ESPN right now....

Yeh, it is always good to get 20 million. Just not sure why it wouldn't have been mentioned by anyone yet.

The ACC has a few things like a radio contract with Sirius that not a lot is known about and advertising and ticket sales for bball, wbball, fball, baseball, lacrosse, and soccer championships.

I don't know if that is all equal to 14 million though.

Since ACC doesn't get to 17 million for 9 years, its not. And there should be no signing bonus because they actually signed in 2008.
Big 12 got a signing bonus on Fox of $20 million last year and on ESPN next 3 years on actually signing new deals. Realistically, Fox and ESPN are giving them their new revenues in the closing years of the old contract, but by calling it a bonus on the new contract, they are deferring the expense over the life of the new contract. Its an accounting trick for the networks.

ESPN can do anything they want here. Not sure why you would say there should be no signing bonus- because there was a signing of a new extension, which can come with a new signing bonus.

And kind of think about it. I would kind of say this revelation took the starch out of a lot of the pro-Big 12 chorus these last 2 days. If ESPN did do this, it was brilliant.

In one of those articles it said that all the money from the NCAA might not be included in that 16 million so there could be up to a million more to be had.

The main incentive for a signing bonus is the accountants. On a new contract they can pay now during the old contract period and report the expense later. So there's not the same incentive to do it.

In any event, what FSU earned this year and next year is irrelevant. Its what they earn after that in the ACC vs. what they would earn in the Big 12 that is what they will be evaluating.
