that's probably one of the least populated areas in the nation; no wonder that there aren't any FBS schools there
It's still amazing that even with all the bball schools that there is still none in that area. That's a giant chunk of emptiness lol.
maybe one of the Dakota teams can make the jump
Montana is pretty much dead in the water due to some recent scandals involving their football program
don't know that much about Montana State but doubt they could make the jump
Montana State will do whatever Montana does.
The South Dakota schools are way behind the North Dakota schools in facilities, budget, endowment, and research. The Sanford charity may however come to their rescue with very very significant facility gifts (new stadiums, arenas).
When UND moved to DI, it was with the express intent that it eventually be in an FBS WAC. Problem is, the opportunity happens way ahead of the expected time frame later in this decade. What has also happened is a huge amount of money, people, and businesses are pouring into the state due to Bakken oil. In western North Dakota, towns of 10,000 may be 100,000, and villages of 1000 may be towns of 10,000 by the end of the decade. ND will drastically reduce property taxes and maybe eliminate income taxes because so much oil revenue is coming in.
The North Dakota schools have since the 1930's have had a dream to unite the flagship schools along the Northern Pacific and Great Northern railroad lines (Idaho, Montana St, Montana, Wash St, UND, NDSU). Obviously, Washington state won't be a part, but eventually the rest will be together.
