Did Denver make a HUGE mistake
Correct me if I'm wrong, but after all the previous WAC schools have accepted their invites, there are only four members left in that conference (assuming UT-A is moving to the Belt).

The WAC has four schools listed as members to begin the 2013 fiscal year, they are: Denver, Idaho, NMSU and Seattle. Clearly four teams don't make a conference. Idaho's probably going to the Big Sky and Seattle is probably going back from wence they came; any speculation on where Denver and NMSU goes? Don't these announcements need to be made prior to May 31st to insure a home for 2013?

Denver was out of the Belt regardless. They weren't sponsoring enough SBC sports.

Denver should go to the Big Sky.

Could be wrong but believe FBS schools have until the end of June though.

Denver will be in a more appropriate conference for them. They have value. Just not to the Sun Belt.

They might not get the huge upgrade they should be fighting for (the Missouri Valley), but they should at least make the Big Sky.

Denver is consistently among the best non-football sponsoring athletic departments in the country. It's a shame they are so far out of footprint.

Agreed. No hate on Denver, but they really weren't a fit geographically. Especially after NM State bailed on us.

Guess it's time for Liberty and Jacksonville State to join the WAC.

Did Idaho make a HUGE mistake for leaving the belt so many years ago?

No. The Idaho and Sun Belt relationship was never meant to be a longterm one, with good reason.

RE: Did Denver make a HUGE mistake
Here's DU latest AD statement on realignment:
http://www.denverpioneers.com/ViewArticl...=205428019

DU really had no choice but to join the WAC when they were offered the chance. The WAC they 'joined' bears little resemblence to what it is now. DU will try to lead the remnants, but right now it looks like all the remaining WAC schools have one foot out the door...unstable.

DU was in the Sun Belt for 12 years, and no one thought they would be there that long...We are clearly not in the footprint for the SBC nor are we a similar school to SBC schools.

DU has always wanted to be in the WCC, where most of the schools are small privates without football, like DU. But the WCC has not wanted the Pioneers. Maybe they will go larger and bring in Seattle and DU, but they have no reason to hurry.

There might be an outside chance at MWC or MVC membership if futher raids shake up those conferences. We'll see. MWC would be great, but they may have a football only proviso. Same with the Big Sky.

The Summit is another option, but not one that would be attractive here. Only as a last resort.

Seattle and Denver are both perfect fits for the WCC -- both good city schools without football. Denver isn't on the west coast, but the city definitely has a west coast vibe. In Seattle's case, they a a former WCC member in a hoops recruiting hotbed.

DU has offered even travel incentives to join the WCC, but have been rebuffed. Travel is the big issue for the WCC. They were willing to overlook it for BYU, but not for us, The other issue is baseball, which DU dropped in 1999, as there were few regional opponents in the Rockies, and the spring weather here is unpredicable, too. The baseball field was ploughed-under and turned into a lacrosse stadium, which is now our big spring sport.
