Quote:I don't have all the 40 times, but do have all the weights, verticals and bench press numbers for the Trojans in attendance. Stanley Arukwe ran a 4.19 in his first time. Sure, it was with the wind, but Arukwe is a track star with world class speed, and his second run was a 4.29. Jimmie Anderson ran around a 4.41 as well and Jamie Hampton, after all kinds of surgeries, ran a 4.53.

These pro day times are probably hand timed, yes? 4.19 is beyond stupid fast. There are countless guys I can remember that supposedly posted low 4.3's coming into college and end up running like 4.4 or even 4.5 at the combine, Dwight Dasher had great football speed and I saw him outrun a lot of guys, but I think his official 40 time was like 4.56.

Since the combine switched to electronic timing only 11 guys have run sub 4.3. Chris Johnson ran a 4.24 and I'm sorry, but I don't believe anyone in the Sun Belt is faster than Chris Johnson.

If someone in the Sun Belt was that fast they need to be on the track team also and would be dominating.

If someone ran a legit 4.19, even wind aided, there's a fair chance they'd be training for a trip to London in a few months.

Arukwe was on the track team. He had a year of eligibility left, so he tried out for the football team. Would you try keeping up a little better?

Even 4.29 is questionable for a college track athlete, but 4.19 is beyond college track fast. Granted, the 40 yard dash is not an Olympic event, but 4.19 is borderline Olympic type speed. Someone from ESPN estimated that Usain Bolt would run something like a 3.53, but others have come out since and aid they miscalculated something, or like that would be his fastest 40 yards out of his 100 meters or something like, estimates for a combine style 40 put his time more in the 4.0 rang.

I can respect everyone's points-of-view on the subject, but I didn't time him. Those were times reported. By whom, again, I don't know. There were scouts from 9 or so teams yesterday and that's about the extent of it. At this point, you're preaching to the choir, but others were posting numbers reported and I thought it was interesting. We are talking about a guy that was out of eligibility for track and walked-on to play football and made some good catches down the field while he was able. So, the people that timed him reported those times...I just posted them.

We just heard down here that Paul Bennett, our TE/Fullback, will be traveling over to Troy to participate in their pro day.

It was cool of Troy to allow that.
He ain't going to blow up the stop watch, but he is a very strong kid.
I can't wait to see his results.

Edit: Crap. I just noticed that this was yesterday!

They always have guys from other schools participate and former players come back, also. There's usually a big turn-out by the league because of the open policy TROY has.

I'm not saying that you're wrong, just saying these type of "less than accurate" numbers get circulated every year. 4.29 is eye popping speed, 4.19 would be faster than anyone that's ever run the NFL combine aside from, supposedly, Bo Jackson.

I know...it was like "Prime Time" popped in my head when I read it, but I'd like to see if anyone else posts numbers from TROY's pro day. Generally, 40 times are a little "faster" when they're hand timed. 04-cheers

I don't know why, because I usually never care, but for some reason I am really excited to see what TY does in the NFL.

I think he'll be a potential game changer from week one. It would be nice to produce another top 10 pick too, although I have no idea how far up the ladder he is among WR's. I imagine his size hurts him a little, although marginally.

Doubtful from week 1. WR is a tough position to adjust to in the NFL, Jernigan didn't have a single regular season catch this past season. AJ Green and Julio Jones(as good a pair of WR prospects in one class we may ever see) both had great rookie seasons and Green ranked T-34th in receptions and T-21st in TDs while Jones ranked T-52nd in receptions and T-11th in TDs.

CBS ranks TY as the 24th WR, 187th overall, and projects a 5th-6th round

Drafttek.com ranks him as the 6th slot receiver and 125th overall.

WalterFootball.com ranks him as 12th receiver overall with a 3rd round projection.

I think anything before the 3rd round would be surprising as there are some pretty exciting WR's in this draft, most notably Justin Blackmon and Alshon Jeffrey, however, the top WRs in this draft are mostly big time, prototypical guys and for teams looking for a WR in a TY mold, the competition isn't quite as stiff, Kendall Wright, though not as fast will probably be the first undersized WR to go, after that it will likely come down to who teams like the best out of Ryan Broyles, Joe Adams and Hilton. If a team can grab Hilton in round 4, I think they're getting a deal, anything after 4 is potentially a steal.

With that time he'd be missing summer camp to be at worst an Olympic alternate. I suspect his actual time is much closer to 4.3.
