Also helps if LT is added.

Yep. Louisiana Tech's men are in the WAC basketball tournament championship game and Tech's women are in their WAC basketball tournament championship game also. Of course I'd love to see them win both to go with that 2011 WAC football champions trophy.

Obviously Hawaii is already in but I DISLIKE HAVING PARTIAL SPORT MEMBERS.

It really makes for split decisions...

Look at

Big East 1.0
Big East 2.0
Big East 3.0- whatever you want to say its up to with teams being added by the week....
CUSA 1.0

I don't like conferences having partial members either it should be all or nothing with the exception of Hawaii.

However if it saves travel money and adds tourney & tv money it can make sense.

Forget basketball schools. Add one football-only in the East to balance Hawaii, with the low-hanging fruit being UMass, since the MAC does not want to be stuck with 13 members. Everyone else needs to be all-sports.

This!!!!!

Let's leave the hybrid to the Big East. We already have Hawaii as a football-only. Hybrids are weak beacause there's too many differing agendas.

If you wanted 20 in all sports...

Add UNT, FAU, Utah St for all sports.

UMass fb-only for market & future potential. They likely won't leave a10 non fb though. Complement their fb with College of Charleston non-fb to try and save travel money and add a program with higher 5 year avg rpi than your league overall.

In the west balance Hawaii football with SDSU non-fb. They average 33.8 ranking over five years in rpi and fit geographically perfect for standing in Hawaii's pod.

Pods-

Pacific- USU, UNLV, Nevada, Fresno, SDSU nonfb/Hawaii fb

Front range- Wyoming, CSU, AFA, UNM, UTEP

Central- Tulsa, UNT, Rice, Tulane, USM

Eastern- UAB, ECU, FAU, Marshall, UMass football and CofC nonfb.

If you don't want CofC and UMass you could sub in MTSU.

If AFA bolts add UTSA.

If going to 24 add SJSU, UTSA/TxSt, LaTech, and whichever of MTSU or the UMass/CofC you did not already add

Why would you do anything for SDSU after they turned their backs on you in order to join the Big East?

The way to balance Hawaii is to give UMass football-only status in the East side of the Alliance/Merger.

Like any of the rest would not have left? It isn't like SDSU acted in poor form on the way out.

Fact is you can balance with a fb only in the east but uneven divisions across different sports can complicate divisional issues. If you have four pods of six teams in football and 2 of six and 2 of five in other sports how is that good? Better to have even divisions across all sports.

Add the best assets you can that make for the most competitive overall league and allows you to save on travel cost. SDSU hoops is arguably tops in the existing MWC and their tournament credits make them more than valuable enough to put schools like Denver and Seattle to shame. They elevate the league level of play and fit perfectly.

You want regional rivalries, strong football, reasonable travel cost, and high hoops rpi. They help you by their inclusion on every front but football.

Adding USU, SDSU, and CofC can really help the hoops RPI and future tournament bids by the league. Much more than most of the other rumored all sports additions and would take a much smaller tv cut from the league. Non-fb members likely would take 200-500k per year at most from a tv contract. One at large tourney bid from each every 3-4 years repays that in full if not more if they win a game or two there. NCAA credits pay out 1.25 million per 6 year period and will increase as the march madness tv deal escalates in value over time.
