La Tech and Texas St. It could be the other Texas school but this is what I've heard. Both Texas schools will be joining for sure if We lose FIU or UNT. Sorry Georgia St and App St but you didn't make the cut.

I heard it from a good source though one can never tell how things will really go in the world of college football. I do know that La Tech has contacted Benson already and are ready to join right now. NMSU wants back in to but they are to far out West. It seems the Belt is very popular at the moment.

Texas st. all sport to get football to 12. Very likely the Belt takes onother basketball only school.

damn, I would have prefered Tech and App State. I think the nation would have respected that combination much more.

Funny thing is (not really for them I guess) that some NMSU fans were complaining about "lowering" themselves back to the Belt.

They never did too much while they were, here, did they ? Pardon me if I'm incorrect.

Glad we're getting Texas State. That's the kind of school we need. With their stadium expansion upcoming, that'll be a great facility, one of the best in the conference. Go SBC!

I still think we'll end up getting Ap State. If anything this is round 1, and our first move. We'll have another move to make depending on who the alliance comes after.

Truthfully, We'll likely end up with App and Georgia State as well depending on how things go.

Ow well, I had had my hopes up, guess if App State cannot get into the Sun Belt guess we will have to settle for the Alliance. Dang.

Classic prisoner's dilema.

Two partners in crime commit a robbery. The police arrest them and interrogate them in seperate rooms.

If both prisoner's keep quiet then the police won't be able to convict either one of them and they both go free.

However if one criminal testifies against the other then he will get a plea deal and the other will get life in prison.

So each prisoner must make a decision whether to rat the other one out or to keep thier mouth shut.

So long story short... if you want La Tech then just tell them that you will give them first shot at the Sunbelt, but if they decline then we invite Tx State and UTSA thus killing the WAC.

Seems as if the WAC was going to die on it's own since it didn't have enough members.
Sounds fishy to me. Did the WAC somehow get Benson the job so that they could get invited? ha,ha

This is exactly why I don't like Benson. If this is true, the Belt will remain a gateway conference for the FBS. I hope the Benson supporters will be happy.

Right now, is expansion really in the best interest of the current Sun Belt programs? Would the addition of LA Tech and TSU really create a better T.V. contract? Is the Belt preparing to lose a program or two?

RE: The 2 new additions are
I don't think Tech is going to commit to the Sun Belt until the CUSA/MWC Alliance expansion teams are announced. The Tech fans would be revolting (although some would argue that they already are). Tech and Texas State are the most likely immediate Sun Belt additions but UTSA and Georgia State are both strong candidates to replace Sun Belt schools that may depart for CUSA in the near future.

Benson is experienced in negotiating with television networks and I believe that he is trying to assemble the most lucrative package possible for the conference. UTSA and Georgia State are in huge markets and the Sun Belt needs those.

NMSU may be left outside looking in, and all those very good 1AA programs in tiny rural locals will remain just that.

The WAC is dead, at least as a football conference, and possibly as a conference.

RE: The 2 new additions are
I wonder if this is just the move to kill the WAC... knowing full well that the MUSA merger is going to take their. time and eventually grab from the Belt. Kill off the WAC, then lose 2 teams to the MUSA and then add 2 more..

Makes sense.. Just surprised to hear TSU not UTSA. Unless TSU knows that if they don't go Belt, they might not get a second chance and UTSA is willing to slow play the entire thing.

Does the Belt add huge exit fees or a waiver of TV rights to their new members will be the real question.
