So tell me about Texas State--its football and especially basketball and why I should support you all as members (not being a smart ass, just don't know much about your school).
WESTERN KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY HILLTOPPERS: 42 conference championships, third-most in NCAA history. 40 seasons with 20+ wins, sixth-most in NCAA history. 38 All-Americans, 34 national post-season appearances, 21 NCAA Tournament berths. 14th in NCAA history in all-time wins (1,643). 8th in NCAA history in all-time winning percentage (.670). 2002 NCAA Division 1AA National Football Champions

WKUSledgeHammer. Truth be told, our basketball team is pretty bad right now. But, will most likely be getting a new coach after this season. And with the additional money that we have been getting of late and the type of hirings we have made in other sports of late, most expect us to finally get an assistant from a major D1 school, instead of our past hires which were always D2 and D3 coaches.
As for football, our history is not very impressive. However, the last few years the Students voted to increase their athletic student fees, and with the move to the FBS level, we have seen in increase in donations as well. And last year we hired Dennis Franchione as the new head coach and the school is finally starting to put money into athletics.
If you are looking for a school with a prestigious history of winning at the FCS level, Texas State is not your school. What you get with Texas State is a school with over 30,000 students located right in between two major media markets (in which it absolutely does get air time in both) San Antonio and Austin. Which now has an athletic budget on par with or surpassing all the SunBelt schools.

Forget all that, TSU fan. Tell them about those beauties floating down the San Marcos river in inner tubes during the late spring and summer. Reason ENOUGH to like Texas State.

What's the budget?
According to equity in athletics:
Expenses $19,695,633
Revenue $21,300,108
I believe that it will go up again next year. The students voted several years ago to increase the athletic fee to $20 per credit hour spread out over 5 years. I believe that next year will be the final step on that increase. It should put the amount from $22-23 million depending on the enrollment which has increased every year. Next year the enrollment could break 36,000 students and challenge North Texas for the 4th largest enrollment in Texas.

You sure about that Bobcat???. I live just down the road in New Braunfels. We get San Antonio media in NB and there is NEVER a mention of TxState. They are big UTSA supporters and promoters but the Bobcats dont get a sniff of airtime from SA media.

You know the sad thing is, Louisiana Tech probably has the worst facilities of all of the expansion candidates. Though I admttedly am not a huge fan of App States track around the football field thing.

No kidding. Last season I watched a WR catch a TD pass, run through the endzone and proceeded to be tackled. As the two players slid out of bounds they ended their skid in a concrete drainage ditch that ran along the edge of the turf. Let me type that again, a concrete drainage ditch right off the edge of the turf. It had trash in it too, you could really see that famous La Tech "seperation"...it was somewhere between the Burger King Whopper wrapper, the condom, and the crumpled up Natty Light cans. Nothin' but seperation.

Neither are we, trust me. Overall, our football facilities are top-notch but I hope that relocation of the track is included with adding seats in the next round of renovation planned for 20?? when we make the FBS transition. It's been discussed and it really should happen, our track program is too strong to not have their own facility. Plus, it is an eye sore.

We really need more Texas State Bobcat fans on here. Their threads are getting derailed quickly with little representation of their fanbase to keep them on track.

There's a few of them with a "better than the Belt" attitude we can do without.
