Memphis? Why?
What does Memphis bring to the table? Nothing i can think of. Sure, they add a little to our basketball, but basketball isn't our problem. Football is, and Memphis football is dreadful.

And how is Memphis football ever going to get better? Memphis is located smack-dab in the middle of SEC country. Where will they recruit from? Any good recruits in their area will get vacuumed up by one of the *5* SEC programs within half a day's driving distance of Memphis.

The weakest AQ football conference goes out and adds a TERRIBLE football program? This move is just crazy. 01-wingedeagle

As I recall, they took USF when your football sucked. And you didn't even have a basketball program to make up for it.

RE: Memphis? Why?
Well my 1st question would be.....who else are you adding?

Keep in mind that whoever you say has to be willing to do the following:

1. Play in the Western Football division

2. Be of more value than the #49 largest TV market to make the TV execs happy

3. (This is the big one....but is only my opinion) Willing to drop their conference at this late date....pay all their conference exit fees....and be willing to fill the WVU slot in the 2012 football schedule after WVU leaves?

Memphis vs USF 2-3

And, that 3rd win was after you had already moved to the BE , enjoyed a few good recruiting years and BCS money.

Right and Memphis' 1st win in the series was against USF in 2001. USF's 1st year as a I-A school....an Indy....coming off 4 straight seasons of recruiting as an I-AA school. So based on your reasoning, I guess you can't really count that win. But then in our 2nd year as a I-A Indy (2002)....USF beat Memphis.....what was your excuse there?

This was after USM and Memphis blocked USF (a fellow CUSA charter member) from upgrading their football program straight from I-AA to CUSA and made us play 2 seasons as an Indy.....and went 1-1 against us.

Yeah we remember. 05-mafia

RE: Memphis? Why?
Football was more then made up for man.. Damn look at everything and the whole package as its coming together.

I have posted this about 5 times today. But I'll do it again here. Shortened version of course.

Pittsburg and Syracuse Football< SMU, Houston, Navy, UCF Football.
WVU Football< Boise St. football.

Bonus with potential Memphis and San Diego St.

Who is anyone to say that The programs coming in won't be 10x better with 8-12 million $ more per season, better recruiting, and more national attention? No one can make a relevant argument about any of the programs until you give them a couple season in the NBE.

Football is going the be the best it's been since Miami, V Tech and Boston College left. With like I said 2 teams with huge potential. You said it first Memphis is in the middle of SEC Country. That gives the Big East a team where? That allows both Big East football and basketball to come into where? That also Means Memphis can get recruits we would never have dreamed of before because of what?

Memphis brings in a team basketball wise that will be able to compete and challenge for Big East titles. Football we'll have to get there. But we will get there. Overall as an entire conference the Big East just got better. Football wise way better and basketball wise you add a Memphis team that has been able to get consistent top 10 recruiting classes, has had top 10 attendance, and has a very passionate fan base while in C-USA... Imagine what can happen in the Big East. Not to mention is give the Big East a solid foothold into Memphis recruiting which is generally one of the top 3 hotbeds in the entire country. Rivals.com even posted last year that Memphis was the #1 hoops hotbed for highschool basketball. Im sure it dropped a couple spots this season but it doesn't change the fact that Memphis is one of the best places for Highschool hoops in the country with alot of talent.

At this very moment our Athletic budget would rank #6 in the Big East without the Big East TV and AQ Money. We also have dedicated boosters and have made huge commitments to our facilities in all sports.

So that's what we bring to the table right now. And I'm sure I didn't hit everything.

Memphis FB can improve.
BE must put clamps on BB program, much like BE did with Cin

I have a feeling that Big East and UH basketball will be a mutually beneficial partnership.

RE: Memphis? Why?
I think the NBE lineup will be a whole lot more better the previous one. No smack talk but just as someone who likes good football watching WV play the cuse was terrible and I honestly did not even know who was in the Big East until all this expansion started again.

Memphis is not a world beater but they can be every bit as good as Rutgers, Uconn, USF, and SMU. Once again no trash talk but as a BCS league they Big East just needs 12 members who want to stay and improve like Houston if it ever wants to compete with the ones above.

RE: Memphis? Why?
If Memphis hired the right football coach (in Justin Fuente) three months ago why couldn't Memphis be just as good in football as any other team in the new big east?

Seriously, what other advatages do any of the remaining schools in the Big East have over Memphis?

None of the other schools in the big east have very much winning history to rely on? If anything I would say Memphis still has a little more cache than the rest of you guys because of our dominance in hoops years a few years back.

The only schools I would say we wouldn't be on an immediate equal footing with are Boise State because of its recent incredible success and begrudgingly Louisville (who I think Louisville has some national prestige).

I doubt that schools like Cincy, South Florida, Rutgers, SMU, Houston, San Diego State, UCONN or Navy will be able to significantly out recruit Memphis after a few years of us getting back to respectability. If anything I would say we have more of an upside than most of those schools.

Idk. SDSU, Houston, SMU, UCF, and USF reside is the most fertile recruiting grounds in the nation. Also have more recent history of success and almost all have nicer facilities. Maybe they won't significantly out recruit you, maybe they will, but it is stupid to deny that they don't have distinct advantages over schools like memphis.

Also Boise hasn't had recent success. We have had 5 losing seasons in the last 43 years. Not really recent success...
