There is a cap for state employees in the state of Arkansas, Governor included as I understand it - and that is the number that gets published often. But I think the total package is around 270K.
FWIW - Arkansas somehow manages to maintain a balanced budget with crazy policies like this.

How *does UA manage to compete with draconian measures like this?

The limit is on public funds - not private donations.

I agree but just don't think he is going to get the AQ offer this year. ASU just wants to do everything it can to make sure he does not go to another Non-AQ school. I think Freeze likes how the negoiations are going and really does love coaching at ASU. Likes living in Jonesboro.

He knows one thing for sure, he can win here.

Exactly.
But what I've seen so far in his recruiting, it's similar to his coaching.

I guess the Tuohys have a lot of influence (not to mention money to donate)....because I have a hard time believing that Ole Miss would be willing to take that chance.

Clearly they have money, they fed Michael Oher for a few years...

Which is even more of a plus because he is a much better recruiter than Roberts and has put together a stronger coaching staff.

His leaving is less certain than it was a few hours ago with the Smart rumor. The thing is and remains that Freeze will accept Ole miss if they offer. As of 2 days ago, he was telling people on the coaching staff he thought they would offer.

We might be able to hold onto him for one more year if Ole Miss chooses Smart. I dont see Southern Miss coming open right now, though I think their fans would prefer it does. Im not sure that Memphis can compete...lots of concerns about dedication to winning there.

Bruce Feldman wrote in a piece recently that he thought Freeze would be at Southern Miss Ole Miss or Memphis by the end of the year, however I dont think he was taking into account the package we are offering, which is nearly 3 times what his current salary is.

Really will be shocked if Freeze gets a HC job at any AQ school this go around.

The only comment I heard today by a credible source was that Freeze was totally focused on Troy and nothing else. Did say Dr. Lee was in and out of Freezes office a lot.

I think ASU fans just want to link Freeze to jobs because he can. The issue is that we have too many fans who talk to someone close to Freze one time, and claim that as their insie info. Now everyone believes he's going to Southern Miss, and they dont even have an opening yet.

The only thing we know is that he's not dumb enough to go to Memphis.

I'm sure my wife knows something because she works with two of ASUs assistant coaches’ wives, and I know they talk about what is going on with their respective hubbies, problem is she will not tell me anything. Actually I know better than to ask!
