It will be a CUSA team. One site has East Carolina v Cajuns in the NO Bowl.

RE: Who will UL play
CUSA has 6 bowl tie ins...4 bowl eligible as of right now with only 2 more possible. UTEP can become bowl eligible with a win over UCF...winner of ECU/Marshall game is bowl eligible. Houston is 8th in the BCS standings right now...if they keep winning they are in a BCS game. So that's 6 tie ins...Houston in a BCS bowl leaves the possibility of one or even two CUSA bowl tie ins going unfulfilled.

Big East and Big Ten will have more then their allotment. It would be nice to see a BCS team in New Orleans.

I highly doubt they would ever send a BCS team to New Orleans...that bowl is seen as beneath BCS conferenc teams. Either CUSA will go, or MAC will fill the slot.

They might not have a choice. Once their tie ins are filled it's basically a free for all. I said it first...Big East or Big Ten in New Orleans Bowl.

I think what he was implying was that a team from one of those conferences could decline the offer like Notre Dame did for another bowl game a few years ago.

That rarely happens...only when you get a team with a big enough ego does that happen. Syracuse or Northwestern would gladly accept a New Orleans bowl invite.

The thing is, there are going to be several open bowls that they would take first. Basically NO Bowl gets last pick of the litter, and often times what is left is a MAC school, like Ohio last year.

The only BCS conferences that will be over the limit will be the Big East, and maybe the Big 10. Both will be able to find other bowls for their champ before New Orleans gets their chance. I understand there isnt a set pick order, however often times teams get contacted by multiple bowls by now, and already know which ones they will get.

RE: Who will UL play
Ok so looking at the landscape and how it will all shake out...75 bowl teams eligible...removed Miami since they decided not to go. If the SEC, Big Ten, and Pac 12 send 2 teams to the BCS, The Big Ten, Big 12, Big East, MWC will all have one team looking for a bowl. Pac-12, will have one open bowl tie in, and since Army and Navy are both not eligible that leaves 2 from the Independents. CUSA will also have 2 openings. So that is 5 openings. The Big Ten takes one, The Big 12 takes one, The Big East takes one, the MWC takes one, and Notre Dame takes the other. That gives us the 3 MAC teams, and the 2 SBC teams and leaves them out in the cold barring any strange developments. It is very possible that the New Orleans bowl will have a Big Ten or Big East team.

Argh...those secondary tie ins are gonna make this thing hard to predict.

RE: Who will UL play
I've seen Temple as a possibility for ULL to play in some projections...
The MAC's back ups are a WAC spot(NewMexico), Army's spot(Millitary), and a C-USA(NewOrleans) spot I believe... And those 3 all may be available. Even if 6 don't deserve to come from the MAC. The MAC may have hit a gold mine with back up tie ins and things falling perfectly. 4 teams are guaranteed right now I think. 5 is likely, and the 6th is determained upon UTEP getting eligible and Houston going to a BCS bowl.

Are you sure the MAC has a secondary tie in to New Orleans? Secondary tie ins are not easy information to come by.

I think Houston gets a BCS bid and CUSA cannot fill the New Orleans bowl. I would guess MAC fills the spot. Now what would be cool is if Air Force got eligible (New Mexico St left) and came to New Orleans but I would bet if they get eligible, the Independence takes them with the 3rd pick of MWC teams.

It makes sense...MAC Filled in last year.

Sadly it appears WKU and FIU are out in the cold this year.
