Wow, these guys really don't have a clue!
Don't take the time to get a clue. Sun Belt bowls do work a little differently then most conferences where it's almost always a slotted deal.
It just shows how little attention they pay, the last time the Sun Belt's true #1 was in New Orleans was 2008.

RE: Updated CBS Sports Bowl Projections
What bowls would we get if the following happened?
FIU wins out (beats FAU, @ULM & @MT - very possible) to end up 8-4
ULL either loses last 2 (@ASU & @AZ) to finish 8-4 or say they beat ASU to finish 9-3
WKU loses to LSU but wins final 2 conf. Games to finish 7-5
ASU wins out 10-2 or if they lose to ULL to finish 9-3
We could have 4 teams with decent records to be more than eligible for a bowl...what happens then?

stAte to Mobile, Cajuns to N'Awlins
everyone else hoping that there's a slot, with WKU getting first nod (unless bowl opening is in the state of Florida)

RE: Updated CBS Sports Bowl Projections
Just realized that if WKU beats Troy and UNT, and stAte loses to Cajuns, that WKU could be the champion (if stAte loses 2 SBC games).
What is the tie-breaking scenario ?

If the Cajuns win on Saturday, they are guaranteed a share of the SBC title.
If the Cajuns win + ASU loses one more + WKU wins all of its remaining conference games, WKU goes to Birmingham and ASU looks for the BBVA or another bowl to pen up.
If the Cajuns win + ASU loses no more, ASU goes to Birmingham and WKU/FIU looks for BBVA or another bowl to open up.
ASU has the tiebreaker over WKU so we control our own destiny. Lose one and we are ok, lose two and we are hoping WKU stumbles.

I assume you meant "Mobile" instead of "Birmingham". Isn't BBVA in The Ham ?

There is a concern that if there was a 3 way tie, the Bowl placement is a coin flip from the commisioners office, and if WKU won that flip, they would be guaranteed a conference bowl, leaving ASU out.

If somehow FIU does get into the BBVA bowl, what conference would the opponent be from?

We don't have a chance at a conference title, but NT does still have a chance at bowl eligibility. We could theoretically end up with the same record as WKU at the end of the year.

IF we get past Troy and continue the home dominance against WKU in Denton on Nov 19, NT and WKU will likely both be 6-6.
5 Bowl-eligibles...who'da thunk ?

It certainly is a huge IF, but nowhere out of the realm of possibility. If that happens, then ULL and ASU will be the top two (in whatever order), and the order doesn't matter. ULL will be in New Orleans experiencing their first bowl game ever, and ASU will be in Mobile. After that, I think 6-6 WKU or NT would get the nod over 7-5 FIU team, assuming a bowl with an open slot isn't in Florida. Then WKU/NT would have to hope an open slot came up closest to them. If this happens, things will certainly get intersting...of course, there may not be any extra spots at all.

ASU 10-2
UL 8-4
FIU 8-4
WKU 7-5
UNT 5-7
That's how I think the top 5 will shake out. I suppose having WKU and UNT at 6-6 a piece would look nicer in some eyes, giving us 5 BET's, but having four with winning records, well that looks even nicer.

I think bowls have to take 7-5 over 6-6, so the Belt doesn't need 5 BET with some being 6-6 because they won't be picked.

I would too, if were for UNT I hope you guys get to 6-6, it would just look nicer for the conference if you didn't as two 6-6 teams on the board just doesn't look as good as four teams at 7-5 or better. JMO of course

That rule was abolished a year or two ago. The AQ's didn't want a school like NIU to be able to trump a school like Notre Dame.

Yep, the 2010-2011 season was the first season after the rule was abolished.
