RE: TROY - Time For Change?
honest to god this is not smack.

but troy has had the reputation of signing 'borderline' players. not saying it's true but that has been the rep. you call it blakeny giving 2nd chances.

could this be a year that you are low on the number of stud athletes that put you over the top...making up for schematic issues in the past.

I'm a firm believer in an 80/20 ratio for success in any sport. willie taggart didn't get a bionic brain implant upping his 20% to 50%. he got better players.

blakeny has shown he can win when he has studs.

your question should be can he 'recruit' at a high level still.

RE: TROY - Time For Change?
Just to clear things up for those who don't visit GTT. The majority of people are NOT calling for Blakeney to go anywhere. It's all about defensive coordinator Jeremy Rowell. It is not a surprise that our offense would struggle this year with all of the personnel losses. Our defense has been really bad for years now, and most think Rowell needs to go. Every excuse in the book has been used to excuse the miserable results we've had on defense over the last several years. Rowell doesn't seem capable of reversing this trend, and I think Blakeney is finally seeing that.

Just the few in favor of status quo. Otherwise, just passionate fans expressing opinions on the needed changes.

RE: TROY - Time For Change?
Just curious what changes y'all are legitimately advocating for? Seems like you all lost your top receiver, have had some coaches hired away in the last few years, and this will be the first season in six years you don't win the Sun Belt Championship.

RE: TROY - Time For Change?
The majority want a new D coordinator. Many want the assistants gone, and a growing but still minority want a head coaching change. The stats have shown a defensive scheme that is failing, poor special teams for years and years, now an anemic offense and a staff that doesn't seem to show any passion - which then causes a team that is not passionate.

Don't you post over there?

Sadly yes. I stopped for about a month and recently I tried to get some enthusiastic threads going, but everyone wants to b*tch instead.

FAU board is in similar mode.

Hell we know for a FACT that our Coach and his staff our on the way out yet people are still bitching and wanting him out the door right now.

Look at it this way, only 4 more games till the season is over, hopefully both Troy and FAU can reboot quickly.

RE: TROY - Time For Change?
41-23 from 2006 through 2010.

Looking at Blakney's overall record at Troy, 5-6 his first year followed by five straight winning seasons. Losing record his 7th year followed by four straight winning seasons. Losing season his 12th year followed by .500 in year 13, winning record year 14, losing record year 15, winning record years 16-20. Losing record in year 21.

Five losing seasons, 16 winning seasons. Never posted consecutive losing seasons. I think if anyone has earned a chance to come back it's Larry.

RE: TROY - Time For Change?
How many times has Troy faced the Triple Option this year? Same play caller, and same assistant coaches? Have they got better each time statistically/score wise against it (taking into account key player injuries and competition)?

Probably no problem unless you can say absolutely they have not made any improvement since the first of the year facing it. If not, maybe so. But be cautious, you know that you have a proven quality crew, all potential coaches would "look" better perhaps, but are an unknown quantity, even if they have had success other places.

Yeah, we all thought North Texas football had hit rock bottom with Dickey.

What we didn't know was that his replacement, Todd Dodge had a jackhammer.03-lmfao

If you get rid of him for one bad season, you will only have yourselves to blame for the damage you will do to your program. Q decision like that could easily set your program back 5 years.
