What happens if one of these conferences wants to invite a new full member (the MWC may be cut down to a pretty small group very soon)? Does the other conference get some say in that?

The new conference is for football only. All other sports will remain in the separate MWC and CUSA conferences. So theoretically, Mountain West could go after Gonzaga for basketball or CUSA could go after VCU or Butler for basketball.

RE: MWC and CUSA announce merger
First, I come in peace. The goal from this is that it will bring stability, exposure, and open doors. Basically, there will be 2 divisions with the winner from each division playing in a championship. The winner will automatically advance to a BCS bowl. The BCS criteria was evaluated by the presidents and AD's from C-USA and the MWC and they have determined that the merger will bring the winner up to a status that will grant them a BCS bowl. Our AD, Richard Guinani commented that even if UCF left that it wouldn't affect the result. He later stated that Boise State led for the merger to happen. Again, I am only stating his words on them. ESPN is crying because C-USA broke their contracts with them for better exposure...Fox Sports and CBS Sports. That is why they are crying because those networks are going to reap from this merger.

Guys, if ESPN had it their way they would toss away the MWC, MAC, C-USA, Sunbelt, and the WAC and move the other conferences into a league of their own. I hope efforts like this will help conferences like us (currently non-AQ) move us "up the ladder" of success. I wish the best for the Sunbelt and I do hope the best for you.

Signs point to Air Force and Boise State staying.

UCF is a toss-up. They are flirting in the realm of getting invited to the Big East, but nothing has happened yet.

Houston, SMU, and Navy are out there...but not much talk.

The devil is in the details ?

And maybe, they slowed down the rush to board the
Big East train.... and the Big12 can help a little, just keep
talking about membership changes; i.e. Missouri to SEC, and
needing replacement(s).

It might be just enough to keep UWV, UL, and UC from
making that long term commitment to keep the BigEast alive.

Personally I hope the SEC. Big 10, Big 12, ACC dismembers
BigEast FB.

It won't F@cking help us the MAC or WAC.

It almost certainly won't get AQ status for the merged league because the four bowls don't want it, ESPN won't want it and when the 12 presidents on the BCS board sit down to vote (11 leagues and Notre Dame) the AQ leagues Notre Dame Sun Belt MAC and WAC are likely on the other side of the ballot from CUSA and MWC.

The funny thing is MWC has tried to screw Sun Belt MAC WAC and CUSA for years in this BCS battle. If Big East collapses CUSA will pick up Louisville Cincinnati and two others from Big East, jab a knife in MWC's back and leave them in the gutter.

I wouldn't mind merging with the MAC but Id prefer to stay away from the WAC. Even if all three of the conferences were to join I still don't think we would have a BCS bid.

I don't see the point at all in this crap...it's like the 'paid programming' easy money schemes or kitchen devices for sale on cable channels early in the morning...I'm not buying any of it...

RE: MWC and CUSA announce merger
There is no purpose of us merging with anyone. We won't gain anything from doing so.
If we lose members, we just add to get our minimum number back up.

RE: MWC and CUSA announce merger
I have a question for the board. With the CUSA-MWC merger, would they not count as one conference with the Non-AQ BCS split there would only be a four way split? If so, this might work out well for SBC. With the WAC imploding, we could be seeing a pretty good increase in BCS money.

Interesting question. Would seem the MWCCUSA cant have it both ways, although that is the impression I got from the release. In football they are clearing saying they are "one" so that would make me think one piece of the pie.

If MWC/CUSA combo counts as one qualifying AQ conference that
could reduce money received by the remaining three Non-AQs,
MAC,SB, WAC.

I don't see anyone left in the three Non AQs gaining a BCS
bowl by finishing in the top 12. Even top 16 finish is doubtful IMO.

If MWC/CUSA remains Non AQ, and is considered as a single FB
comference, I'm guessing the other remaining three NonAQ's will
still reap and divide among themselves 50% of the BCS bowl money.

Yeah, IMO even a depleted Non AQ MWC/CUSA will still produce
a top 12 team qualifying for a BCS bowl.
