"UH Is Def In the Mix"
http://www.chron.com/sports/cougars/arti...212241.php

"UH is absolutely in the mix," the person said on condition of anonymity. "SMU is in the mix. Air Force is definitely in the mix.There's a lot of people that like Central Florida."

UH, SMU and AFA in the mix. No mention of ECU again.

I didn't see 'def in the mix' with regards to Houston anywhere in that article.

s/b absolutely, my mistake. Doesn't change anything in regard to the emphasis of schools in the article.

abs = def?

I just think it's name dropping... someone trying to sound like they're in the know...

I'll believe it when it happens. For some reason, UH is a constant afterthought in conference expansion... all the reasons I've heard about why from fans of other teams revolve around how things used to be at UH and nothing to do with the reality of the change going on there, and sadly perception becomes reality to people that don't do their due diligence.

A conference that's trying to add the service academies doesn't sound like it knows what due diligence is if the goal is to actually improve football...

RE: "UH Is Def In the Mix"
Everything is trending toward 3 schools in the East, 3 in the West.

I: UCF, Temple, Navy
II: SMU, Houston, Air Force

This is the Tagliabue plan (Temple, UCF, SMU, Houston) + 2 academies to maximize TV value.

I: WVU, UConn, Rutgers, UCF, Temple, Navy
II: Louisville, Cincinnati, USF, SMU, Houston, Air Force

BYU will go FB only to the Big XII to replace Missouri as they'll feel pressure to get into a BCS conference with 75 universities now in the BCS.

MWC responds with UTEP to get back to 10. CUSA adds North Texas and La Tech to reach 10.

MAC grows to 16 with Del, JMU, ODU. SBC pushes to 12 and a championship game with UTSA, TX State, NMSU

WAC=SCREWED

You clearly know very little about expansion.

Big 12 will not take a FB only member.

UNT and UTSA are on the top of CUSA list to replace UH and SMU.

FAU or FIU to replace UCF to continue with presence in Florida.

If UCF, UH and SMU leave then you're UNt and La Tech = 11 schools and not 10 as you note.

Tx St will goto the Sun belt and not MAC to avoid travel costs.

You clearly just don't know how to read.

-I have UNT going to CUSA. I don't think UTSA would be next in line as its an FBS transitional school. Note there has been no talk from the BE of adding a FBS trasitional like UMass even if it might make sense.

-I have SMU, UH, UCF heading to the BE and UTEP heading to the MWC. That would drop the roster in CUSA down to 8. That is why they need 2 to get back to 10.

-I have JMU, ODU, Del going to the MAC, not TX ST.

-A final point, not sure CUSA will feel compelled to go back into Florida. They will pretty much have to look at UNT with the conference offices in Dallas but I'm not sure if they want to go all the way to Miami for another school.

If CUSA loses 3 & the MWC loses 1, both leagues would be at 9. That is the perfect # for an alliance. Each league plays their round robin of 8 conference games & the winners meet in a championship game. May not be AQ, but may be worthwhile from a TV $ perspective.

That is a good point.

Neither the MWC or CUSA may be capable of expanding to add value so why not just stick with smaller conferences for more revenue per school?

I: Hawaii, SDSU, Fresno, UNLV, Nevada, Boise*, WYO, CSU, NM
II: UTEP, Rice, Tulsa, Tulane, So Miss, Memphis, UAB, ECU*, Marshall

That is if both Boise and ECU, the biggest programs in each group stay on board. Both the MWC/CUSA will be taking a hit with their TV deals and what better way to help rebuild that value than a football merger.
