I didn't notice issues with the refs while I watched. I think the muffed field goal (although long attempt) and giving up the punt return late in the 1st half had more to do with the loss than anything else.

There is no question about it. I never thought it would be possible but I feel awful for Toledo. They beat OSU.

Neither did anyone else who watched the game objectively.

In the first quarter duing a tOSU drive they were given 30 yards on two calls. The first was a horse collar tackle, on replay it was clear that the Toledo player tackled him cleanly with his hands no where close to grabbing any portion of the shoulder pads. The second call in the same series was for a face mask. Following the replay the announcers said that the Toledo player had not touched the tOSU player's face mask.

Toled had tOSU stopped in the red zone when a late holding call gave them a first and ten and the opportunity to score.

To me it was blatent and embarrassing.

RE: Big Ten Refs 27 Toledo 22
I didn't feel like they were screwing Toledo. Maybe a few calls I didn't agree with but when they were driving on the last drive the refs didn't do anything to make me think this game was not called fairly.

Their o-line couldn't block OSU on the last few plays. They had a shot and they didn't get it. They played well and give them credit for that.

Horse collar was minimal but the UT defender sure looked to have his hand under the edge of the pads. Announcer was wrong on the face mask call- guys head bobbed down real fast- again not eggregious but I thought they were resonable calls. If I had a problem it was the LACK of calls against OSU- saw a couple obvious holds, but there are holds on every play. We just didn't come up big when we needed too and our talent advantage wasn't enough to overcome the mistakes.

Obvious calls missed by officials were 2 block in the backs on that OSU punt return for a TD.

Seems to be a common event that MAC teams often fall just short of beating the power house BCS teams. Is that due to the refs? Makes you wonder.

But why do the announcers always patronize the MAC by saying they put up a good fight (implying the only way the MAC team had a chance was due to poor play by the BCS team). If OSU beat Iowa by the same score they would characterize it as a hard fought battle between two talented teams.

So many of those questionable calls/non-calls were when OSU really needed them. Oh well, lets just hope we dont get that crew next Saturday, not that it will make much of a difference against UW which appears to be firing on all cylinders now.

MAddawgz you said you weren't scared about Toledo because we haven't found a QB. I feel like this 2 QB situation may be even more dangerous than just having one. We've looked fairly good this year so far...

Toledo is the best all-around team in the MAC. No doubt about it. Winning the MAC West and the MAC Championship game goes through Toledo this season.

Do not underestimate Western Michigan. NIU has a damn good offense too, so depending on how the season unfolds we could have a say in the MAC if our D can learn to tackle better and if our Kick Off coverage improves.

That is a grossly ignorant post, like most of your other posts. The conference refs being from your own conference is a big up. Why do the BCS teams in non conference play usually require neutral refs against other BCS teams or their own conference refs against non BCS teams. Quit being a Huskie football and MAC football downer.

RE: Big Ten Refs 27 Toledo 22
3 illegal formations on punts. 5 men in the backfield. I never did see what they did, but I am guessing it was an issue witht end's stance. The first being a 55yd no return, followed by a return for td. Tell me when then next time you see it called more than once in a game. The last 2 were for show.

College teams I am sure, just as with the NFL, have refs that go to practices to help them with rules, explanations before the season starts. I mean 3 times?

It is expected and I do believe smaller schools do choke a lot of times under pressure. I also think that penalties (or actions of what is a penalty) are interpreted a lot differently in a close conference game vs non-conferenec games. That is the problem. It just happens, will always happen. The BCS schools will always deny it or can't recognize that it happens.

And at one point it was 8 penalties for 90 vs. Toledo, 0-0 on OSU. Not one hold...not one block in the back..."illegal formation"

Please.
