Depending on which number you believe, FIU stadium's current capacity is either 18,500 or 23,000. Either way, closing the sideline won't get them anywhere near 35,000.

Good things happening..... Go Panthers!

This makes much more sense.

RE: FB: FIU soliciting bids for stadium expansion
Fanatic is right, depending on a couple of things (a. whether there will be more chairback added on the North side, b. how far the offset of the bleachers has to be in order to be FIFA compliant) then the enclosure will get us to between 24,000 - 26,000 in total.

RE: FB: FIU soliciting bids for stadium expansion
Here's more

Quote:Get a good look at those old north side bleachers from old FIU Stadium because they won't be around much longer come November 13.

November 13 is the day after the final home game of the season for the Panthers against Florida Atlantic. And that's when the bulldozing of those old north side bleachers begins so that FIU Stadium can be enclosed by the time the 2012 FIU Football season rolls around.

Phase III of FIU Stadium construction is to enclose the north side of the stadium. The new north side of the stadium will mirror what the south side looks like now. New suites and a larger, new stadium club are being designed for the north side of the stadium. So there will be 2 stadium clubs at FIU Stadium.

You can walk three-fourths of FIU Stadium on the current concourse. Next season, you will be able to go around the entire stadium on the concourse. When the stadium is enclosed the capacity is expected be 20,000+ -- an actual number will be determined later.

Construction of the north side begins January 2012 and with no weather delays the project is expected to be completed by early September in time for the Panthers first home game of 2012.

Phase IV, the final stage in FIU Stadium's construction, will be the upper deck of the stadium. That will happen at a later to be determined date. The final seating capacity for FIU Stadium with the upper deck will make it a 45,000-seat stadium.

FIU head coach Mario Cristobal was happy about the news:

"This is a huge step forward," MC said. "It keeps us on pace with everyone else in the country in terms of the facilities race. The most important thing is that it's the continued growth of our program, continued growth of the university, continued growth of our stadium and of our facilities. At FIU, we are going forward and we are going forward at 100 miles per hour. We are real excited about this. FIU is committed to building a big time football program in every sense."

From the Miami Herald

Quote:Garcia said of making the stands ring the field completely, "This will be an important recruiting tool for Coach Cristobal," but what he didn't mention was the bigger picture recruiting tool -- making FIU a more attractive school to recruit to a conference as the puzzle squares shift with conference realignment. The actual number of seats won't change much, but the aesthetic and feel will. It'll look like a college stadium instead of a Texas-sized high school stadium.

Though rain ruined the season opener crowd, FIU's got over 11,000 season ticket holders now and the Central Florida game is nearly sold out. That game's expected to be FIU's largest home crowd in the program's 10-season history.

RE: FB: FIU soliciting bids for stadium expansion
It's about friggin' time! The stadium is very nice from the inside, until you (and TV viewers) see those high school stands.

There really is no press box (at least not two seasons ago, the last time I was in it). It's an awning that extends from the east end of the south deck, near the southeast corner of the stadium. The wind whips through there, potentially destroying everything. It looks and feels temporary with horrible sight lines, not enough linear space for the media to all see the action, crowded with folding tables and chairs, wires everywhere, mostly uncooperative wireless Internet, too may people in a tiny space, it can be very hot and humid ... you get it.

So, if the prime "home" side is the south side, but the press is on the north side, which direction will the presentations, band performances and the like be made? 'Just curious.

Last we heard, the north side was waiting for a project that would include a huge building with classrooms and such. Is that plan now dead, with the copy of the south side to take its place?

Oh, and FAU will also have two stadium clubs - one outdoors and one above, indoors with much higher-end amenities.

BMarkey, the location of the press boxes are in the same less-than favorable area, but now enclosed, finished, indoors with a/c, as I have explained to you in at least one previous thread in this board.

As I posted earlier here in this thread, the Student Support Complex, which had been tagged to be an integral part of the North facade of the stadium (together with the enclosing of the stadium), was first delayed, and then scrapped from this location due to the economy affecting the State University System awarding of PECO funds to build academic buildings, as well as the new administration (new school president and board of trustees) having a different view on things of where to put the SSC. As of today, the funding of the project is not complete yet, due to state funding problems.

Never thought of the side the band would play towards, but I suspect it will be the side where the school President and his invitees are located.

This might wind up being the only stadium I know of that has the press box opposite the side where most of the dignitaries and top supporters sit, unless they move them to the new side.

Not really a complaint, but FIU Panther Fan, why do you post above the quote? It's the opposite of the way most people post and it just flows weird (reading your response and then reading what you are responding to). Just wondering.

So what? As described, you'll be able to walk around the concourse from one side of the stadium to the other in just a couple of minutes (i.e. you want have to go to the ground, walk around, and then go back up). And if it is an issue, a configuration change would solve that very easily.

However, thank you for your considerable obsession with this stadium.

You are right everyone else does it that way, I've never noticed that. However, I always make sure to post before the quoted portion. I figure people would want to read the response (new portion) of the conversation first instead of rehashing something that's already been posted.

Not just the stadium anything where FIU can be remotely criticized you can be sure that bmarkey will be posting on it. Frankly if the media crews were so upset by the current facilities, then we wouldn't have a significant portion of our games being broadcast. Much, much more importantly than that is the product on the field and FIU finally has one that is TV friendly. Go F I U!

I'm just used to reading it the other way. Like I said, it doesn't really matter, but I find it tougher to read when the rest of the thread is one way and then a post has it the opposite...but I guess I can adjust if necessary!

He's been told of the changes of the press box before on at least one thread, and for some reason he somehow ignores this fact and keeps posting as if the press box is the same it was the only year he has gone to the new stadium facilities in 2009. BMarkey, again, there are 2 pressbox areas at both ends of the suites level. Enclosed, private, with wireless internet (always there), and with a/c as well. Again, these changes ocurred prior to the 2010 season, and while not

You FIU fans have very thin skins. I have never been nasty about you or your school, frequently posting the positives where they are due. I could be much more negative, but try to hold back a bit. Oh, and I'm so, so sorry I didn't see your post about the enclosing of the ridiculously located and too small, cramped press box (Oh my, now there are two poorly located boxes) - one other members of the media have joked about and ridiculed for years. I have actually tried to work in it and it was, and likely still is, the worst in the conference.

I really try to ignore your nasty comments, to be honest. Now, if there is an ignore feature on this board, I will surely use it on you.

Please find an examples of these "positives" you have posted. I mean if they are so "frequent" it shouldn't be a problem. Also, fix the post, it's a little repetitive. Lastly, the name calling is unnecessary and if anyone is showing how thin skinned they are it is you. The fact is there is some sort of obsession amongst the FAU fan base with FIU (the only one that really does it with a fun attitude is Owlfamily) and what hurts you guys the most is that the general response to that from us towards FAU is apathy (we don't care). But you keep bringing up the same lie over and over. If its the worst press box in the conference and that's such a huge issue then don't work there. If it was so bad espn/local tv/local radio wouldn't cover us. Trust me, if that was response that we would have gotten then you can be sure it would be one of the top items in the priority list to fix, however, you can check us out on ESPN all season long. Thanks for your concern though.

Improvement of facilities for ANY Sun Belt school can only be a good thing whether it is small or large. If FIU has the fundage for it finish the puppy off then I say go for it.

FAU neesd to desperately redo its Baseball stadium, the plan is in place but it got put on the back burner due to the new OCS for football. (Justifiably so, Lockhart has killed this programs growth for years)

And oh yeah, FIU SUCKS. 04-cheers02-13-banana

Ha. FIU fans are obessed with telling us how obessed we are with you. I read your site (not out of obession, but I do the same with every SBC team), and there is just as much talk about FAU on your board as there is on our message board about you. Besides, BMarkey is a Troy fan, so why are you even bringing us into your fight?
