OUTLOOK: Don't let South Alabama's perfect 17-0 mark since starting a football program fool you, the Jaguars are still a long ways away from joining the Sun Belt Conference in 2013. Of those 17 victories, 14 came against NAIA, Division II and III or college prep teams, all games the Jaguars would have been disappointed to lose. Last year, South Alabama did go 4-0 against FCS teams, including a surprising three-point victory at UC Davis. Bringing back nine starters from an explosive offensive unit - which is slightly inflated considering the competition - South Alabama will be tough to stop on the ground as six of the top rushers return. The defense is an experienced group, but has yet to be truly tested over the past two seasons, that'll change this season. Playing the toughest schedule in the program's three-year history, the 17-game winning streak will come to an end soon, almost certainly by the fourth week of the season when the Jaguars visit Kent State.
At least he did a little research, but does he really think we're the worst of that bunch? Maybe he was surprised we beat Cal-Davis on the road, but we weren't. And he probably just looked at the final score of the Ga State game and thought it was a close one but statistically we crushed them. A few mistakes on the part of the Jags made it look tighter than it was.
I have little doubt that we will win against the two other independents we play this year (UTSA and Ga State) and go on to a record that is no worse than 8-2.
