He's very enthusiastic with every thing he does and is a big FIU fan....traveling with the team and to the Bowl game. I think he'll be an asset, he's already made some news around the country.
I know the Boca boys are a bit envious, but oh well.

RE: Former CNN anchor Rick Sanchez to announce FIU football games
So big in fact, that it's in the Chicago Tribune, but I'm sure your stadium opener will be in the WSJ or maybe even the NY Times.
Rick Sanchez Story in the Chicago Tribune
Quote:Ex-anchor Rick Sanchez scores in FIU broadcast
By Tom Jicha
10:29 p.m. CDT, September 1, 2011
Say what you want aboutRick Sanchez, and some of the things people say aren't fit for print, but the man is a professional communicator in every positive sense of the term.
Sanchez made his debut in the unlikely role of analyst for FIU football Thursday night. He was knowledgeable, analytical and enthusiastic. He knew the players, the plays and how the coaches planned to use them. He was prepared.
Seconds into the season-opener, he broke the "no cheering in the press box" rule. He exulted at every big play made by the home team. When FIU scored, he threw his arms into the air as if he was an official and fist-bumped his play-by-play partner Tony Calatayud.
Sanchez even came prepared with a buzz phrase likely to show up on T-shirts around the FIU campus: "Ay dios mio, FIU." ("Oh my God, FIU.")
He said it was an acknowledgement of the unique composition of the FIU student body. "Sixty percent of the students speak at least two languages."
During breaks, Sanchez greeted and signed autographs for the steady procession of special guests invited to the booth to meet the man they knew from WSVN-Ch. 7 or more recentlyCNN.
FIU president Mark Rosenberg acknowledged Sanchez is a polarizing figure, but said landing him as a color commentator "is a win for FIU. He's got a national profile and national visibility."
Sanchez was a rookie in the booth, but he took control like a veteran. When FIU alumnus and NBA player Raja Bell visited, Sanchez greeted him warmly and invited him to join the commentary.
When a representative of Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Giminez said he would like to be interviewed on the air, Sanchez said no way. "Let's not mix politics with sports."
At some point, someone must have reminded Sanchez he is an employee, albeit one who is working for free for the school two of his sons attend. The mayor's people persisted and Sanchez relented at halftime, reluctantly.
Giminez might be wishing Sanchez didn't. Sanchez didn't throw any softballs. Among the questions that made the politician visibly uncomfortable was one about the scandal at the University of Miami. As the mayor exited the booth, he said aloud (off the air), "That really was a hot seat."
If Sanchez's debut had flaws, they came from over-enthusiasm. A nifty FIU pass completion elicited an exuberant, "That was the best play I've seen this season." The season was 11 minutes old.
"I know I was a bit of a homer," he conceded, but explained almost everyone in the audience was rooting for the same team he was.
"This was fun," Sanchez said. "This was fun."

Yeah, we kind of stole their thunder. They were hoping to have the news cycle to themselves to announce home games moved to 4 pm so it wouldn't conflict with the seniors' bingo.
Bingo is in Hollywood, we already discussed in the other thread the median age in Boca is 40.7 years old and our brand new stadium is way bigger headlines and much better than your washed up news caster announcer!!!
GO OWLS!!

Hmm, starting to notice a trend around here:
Mike Biamonte - Voice of the Heat
Mario Cristobol - Just resigned 5 year contract
Rick Sanchez - National personality
Pete Garcia - just resigned and took over many of the athletic op's.
Isiah Thomas - nuff said.
Looks like FIU is starting to become the 'place to be' for college athletics in South Florida.
