South Alabama vs the SBC
So now that the 2012 schedule has been released, and as expected we will play 8 SBC games next year during our transition year, what's your take on it?

Are y'all excited to play the Jags to see how we stack up? Will a lot of you be traveling to Mobile in 2012? I'm excited that we get to host Troy first, as I think this will turn into a great rivalry and we should be able to draw our biggest crowd yet for that game.

I'll just be glad to not see scores of USA v. Hargrave Military Academy.

But in all seriousness, I look forward to it.

Troy will be @ MT, UAB, and now @ USA in 2012. Strange to have all of our rivals/potential rivals, on the same home/away rotation.

Sorry, but North Carolina State will get the first shot at that this year when we play 'em in Raleigh.

I predict that is going to be a very intense/passionate rivalry, with sell-out crowds the norm in Troy and Mobile alike.

I think USA Coach Jones is either a genius or has seriously underprepared South for D-1 competition with his unorthodox approach towards scheduling over the run-up to D-1 competition.

Its either a brilliant plan to build confidence or a ridiculously easy schedule that didn't prepare the Jags for the calibre of competition they'll face.

I don't know which is the case. We will know by the end of September.

Scheduling has not been easy since before this season USA was unclassified and therefore didn't count as an NCAA win. Nevertheless, the progression has been steady from prep schools, JC's and a D3 opponent in year one, 4 FCS and a mix of D2 and NAIA schools in year two and now 2 FBS, 6 FCS and 2 D2 teams. Jumping in with both feet wasn't possible anyway since no FBS team would play the Jags in the first two seasons, but even if that weren't the case I would still prefer the gradual increase in competition.

This year will be telling for the Jags IMHO.

The important games will be the FBS. If the Jags get blown away in those it will be indicative of how 2012 will go.

Every season has been telling for the Jags.
I recall most people thinking they'd get killed by Hargrave because of all the three and four star prospects on that team.

The Kent State game will should be indicative of how well the Jaguars will play against the Sun Belt teams in 2012 for the most part with the possible exception of Troy and MTSU. They will probably prove to be tough rows to hoe at home. A couple of the SBC road games could prove to be tough also, NC State, on the other hand, just might take us behind the woodshed.

I am extremely aggravated that we have to go on the road to play USA next year, we already have two road OOC games scheduled for 2012, I hate that we have to go on the road for what amounts to a FCS opponent and will prevent us from having six home games. Hopefully we beat Georgia Tech at home this year and they buy out of our 2012 game.

isn't it supposed to count as a 'conference' game? If we're at 8 conference games next season, who won't we be playing?

I don't believe it will count as a conference game, it will count as a FBS game, but they'll still be basically a strong FCS team.
