Video of FAU Stadium's grass being put down
FAUOwlaccess.com has a good video of the first day of grass being laid down at FAU's new stadium.

I think were the only Sun Belt team to have real grass instead of turf.

Welcome to FAU, where even the machine that lays our sod has a beach umbrella.

RE: Video of FAU Stadium's grass being put down
The stadium looks amazing!

Not sure if I'd like real grass. Troy took the Sound of the South to Florida in 07 and 09 and we were not allowed to march on their field both times. They feared we'd ruin the turf because of all the rain they had before and during the game. I can see why they call it the Swamp. The 09 game was miserable...

The Sound marched in 2007. I have photos from the field. It was hot (and humid) as hell, though.

I played in Florida Field in high school, when it had the old, nasty, splitting-at-the-seams Astroturf, and thought I was going to cough up my insides at halftime.

Cannot wait to see it in person this year !

Staying in Lauderdale By The Sea. How far is that from the stadium (drivetime) ?

Maybe an hour at the most, with traffic.

I would recommend staying in the Boca area, Delray Beach or even parts north (West Palm area).

20-30 minutes tops. There won't be any traffic on a Saturday.

Well, it has taken me 20 minutes just to get from I-95 to a mile or so east onto campus. :)

As others have said I would suggest staying in Boca. LBTS is nice and was probably the best spot when FAU played at craphart.

There are numerous hotels on the beach and close by in Boca and your drive would be very short. You would also be close to Delray Beach (20 minutes) and Atlantic Avenue which is now pretty nice as far as bar hopping and shopping. Hell, staying In Delray would probably be better then LBTS, IMHO.

I'll probably be staying in Hollywood, but that's the way it goes.

Here are some more pics from the grass installation:

It looks amazing! I think the most impressive feature of this stadium is the attention to detail concerning the stands. I love the FAU logo on the visitors side and the blue/red theme throughout the stadium looks great!

God bless FAU for using grass. Football was meant to be played on grass, not indoors or on plastic.
