The fact that we don't probably comes from the fact that we've been held down as a commuter campus by UAF for so long we haven't been able to build a traditional fan base.

I wouldnt say Brothers. You guys are sort of like cool in-laws who are nothing like the stuck ups in the rest of your family.

and UCA is sort of like the unattractive girl who aint really marriage material, but they're pretty good in bed, so we keep them around for kicks.

I deeply apologize to anyone who is offended by those remarks

Basically a slap in the face by Uark-F and a slap in the face by our conference mate.
I don't see how this is a slap in the face for anyone. This was a good deal for ULM and if it could get renewed would continue to be a good deal.

If any SBC school played utk, I wouldn't consider it a conference mate insulting MT. When MT played Alabama, I doubt if any thought of Troy entered the equation. The same when MT played Arkansas. I think one season MT played LSU while the Cajuns played at utk. I don't believe MT or the Cajuns were insulting each other or that each school's administration viewed it that way.

It's a little different because your big in state teams are good enough to play you guys. It's a slap in the face to ASU because the game is to help ULMs home attendance requirements, while a team in their very own state could really use that help as well.

We don't want their 'help' for anything....never needed it. Attendance-wise, we're fine without their help.
A lot of fans in the state just wants to see the game played.

RE: The Dog Days of Arkansas Summer
Who is honestly dumb enough to think that in the modern era of conference TV contracts that a recruit is going to choose ASU over UA knowing what the difference is in crowds, schedule, and post-season opportunities?

Right now ASU-UCA is locked in on three TV stations across the state. If ASU and UA met in one of those ULM sort of deals, the same thing except more lucrative could be done by not making it a UA home game putting the TV rights under the Sun Belt. Unless ESPN were to pick it up, the game could be syndicated state-wide or put on pay-per-view.

UALR has spent many a year getting screwed by the UA system but not as many years as ASU.

I think with the Southland getting hit again by the WAC, UALR is missing a golden opportunity not looking at the Southland. The LR media would treat UCA-UALR better than they've treated UALR-ASU (anyone remember this http://www.arkst.com/?p=948 ). UALR's costs would go down and UALR would still keep the ASU series because ASU would be adamant about making it happen. The Trojans would be at the top of the SLC much easier.

The best thing going for ASU right now is that I don't think UALR would make the move for prestige reasons and that will help UCA stay odd man out in part in the state press and keep UCA-UALR from stealing the minor thunder of ASU-UCA.

Quote:Saban echoed Blakeney’s remarks but stopped short of mentioning Troy.

“We sort of instituted at LSU that we do that (play in-state schools).” Saban said at SEC Media Days in Birmingham. “We started to do that so it promoted all the programs in-state.”

Seriously, uark-f blows.

LOL, that is pretty good.

I don't know that we (UALR) has it as bad as stAte in this matter. U of A did say they would not play us in the NIT a few years back and cost us a spot (hear say, but I believe it to be true).

Side note: I think UCA will be the 2nd university in the state over the next 10 years and stAte agreeing to play them will help them gain ground, to equal and then pass stAte, IMHO.

ASU is growing faster than UCA now that Hardin isn't at the helm. As for "passing stAte," if there is anything to be learned from other states with multiple FBS/FCS teams is that there is a trickle down effect on recruiting prospects playing football at a younger age and being surrounded with quality coaches. Thus your recruiting base is better as a result.

In addition, nothing would behoove the state better than having multiple college teams to compete on the national stage. The "one state, one team" policy that uark-f has tried to implement has absolutely ruined the state of Arkansas' athletic climate.

I would also be happy if UCA one day upgraded its facilities to be on par with most regional FBS teams and made a move to join the Sun Belt. Of course, in that scenario, I would think UALR would be the one with a target on its back since they actually have a football team.

And not playing them because of some adverse risk that they will somehow be the end of our "second banana" role is exactly the same misaligned thinking that uark-f has tried to incorrectly put forth.
