But it's hard to say what would happen until you're in our shoes.
Moving from 1-AA to 1-A is tough.....and your records reflect it. When you're winning 9, 10 games a year, the fans love it, and flock to the stadiums. Where will they be if you reel in a few 3 win seasons?
It's tough when you have to mix in body bag games to keep the budget in balance. I think we've all had 4 and 5 home game seasons.
Throw in some bad hires in your program...that'll set you back a few years at minimum. Lose a key player, and your season can tumble quicker than the stock market.
You guys might beat the odds....but I wouldn't put my money on it. It's a tough road to travel.
Have you noticed any significant dropoff in attendance (for any team, not necessariliy ASU) since moving from FCS (I-AA) to FBS (I-A)? I've browsed around and haven't noticed anyone with a downward trend in attendance. It seems to me that everyone who moves up has an upward trend in attendance, some much more than others. Not saying that some teams haven't had a drop from one season to the next, but I haven't found anyone with an overall downward trend when comparing their FCS attendance to FBS.

I just remember the 1990's at stAte. You could throw a stick of dynamite in the stands, and not hit anyone.
We did recover, but those were some very lean times.

There will be a large season ticket push about 1 month prior to the season, but I don't see the Cajuns selling more than 9000 season tickets.
The thing that will make this year a challenge in Lafayette is that there is not a single program on the home schedule that will help attendance a lot. No Southern. No McNeese. No one that will bring more than 1-2 thousand. So it is up to the home team to make this year a success attendance wise. Still hopeful that the excitement surrounding the program right now manifests itself into a good home field environment. 20,000 average attendance would be a good move forward at this point.

Middle Tennessee has improved it's attendance slowly since going 1A. MT never really threatened capacity in the stadium as a 1aa (except on one or two occasions before it was expanded in the late nineties. MT was constantly get beat up in the Nashville media about attendance issues in the early nineties, but that has faded pretty much into background now. Going 1A was one of the best decisions ever made by our university.

Here's the 2010 attendance averages. Before it gets pointed out, yes it does include two "home game"; one for ULM and one for FAU that weren't even played in their state.
20,934 ULM - (13,980 W/O "home game" vs Arkansas In LR)
19,024 MUTS
18,947 Troy
18,844 FAU -(14,024 W/O "home game" vs Mich. State in Detroit)
17,718 UNT
17,394 ASU
17.383 ULL
16,545 FIU
14,577 WKU
Interesting, if you take out the ULM home game in Little Rock then App State and Ga Southern from the SoCon would have finished #1 and #2 in attendance if they were in the SunBelt. App and Ga Southern averaged 29k and 19.1K respectively during the regular season. Not trying to flame, but just making the point these would be solid additions to the SB.
I only have 1 thing to say to Ga Southern fans.
SCREW TRACY HAM!
Ham was one of the best......led a startup program to Back to Back national titles his Jr and Sr year. No doubt he took it to Ark St in the 86 title game.

We were running the Wishbone, and if I'm not mistaken, you guys did too....or some close variation.
I LOVED that style of offense! ASU QB Dwayne Brown was one of the best at it. He had eyes in the back of his head.....incredible vision!

Yep, the old triple option. we ran it from 1984-2005 and it produced 6 titles. A new coach Brian Van Gorder abandons it in 2006 and the program went to hell. We brought the triple option back last year with a new coach and things are looking very promising again after our final 4 run last year. The triple option is hell to defend if you are not used to it.

Troy will be about the same or less... I don't see any significant increase in attendance until next year with Miss State and Navy at home.

Wow....at the end of this play, it cuts to 2 ASU cheerleaders. I went to high school with the girl, and the guy was in my college fraternity (Sigma Pi).
Wow...a shocker! A blast from the past.

WKU should be avg 19-21K with 6 true home games plus 1 "home game" in Nashville against UK. I am guessing 40K in Nashville.
WKU has 4 home games + 1 Neutral occur by Oct. 22 before the weather gets colder. This will be a big factor in increased attendance.

He was recently voted into the CFL Hall of Fame. Below is an article on what he is doing now.

Well just like we did for ULM and FAU this year, we'll have a separate attendance count for 'true' home games. :)

To be fair to the Toppers(something I rarely find myself saying) Nashville is about 150 miles closer to Bowling Green than it is to Lexington. So it's not exactly the same thing, it's more similar to when we hosted Louisville in Nashville back in 2006.
