Best shot at making their first bowl?
Three Sun Belt schools have never played in a major college bowl game, who has the best shot at breaking through this year?

ULM. It'd be great if we can get Troy, FIU, ULM, and MTSU in bowls this year. Realistically I see Troy, FIU, and MTSU in bowls. Even if ULM gets the six wins needed I don't see a bowl taking them unless they finish 1st or 2nd in the Belt.

I said my team (the cajuns), yes I'm biased, but I don't think WKU is quite there yet (although, I think they'll win 4/5 games this year) and I've been saying for a while that I think ULM will do worse than people think. I think they showed more than anyone thought last season, but also benefited with some good luck which typically doesn't bounce the same way twice. While I don't think they'll be abysmal, I don't think their bowling this year either.

I think UL-Monroe has the best shot at a bowl, and if it happens I'm hoping the bastards in ruston are sitting at home watching it during the holidays with their families...

No way La Tech fans watch ULM in a bowl game! It's just not proper. Besides, remember the separation thingy.

It works both ways. The Warhawks also were hit with bad luck that affected the season. They were two plays from possibly being 7-5 and two other plays from being 3-9. No surprise when you're playing mostly freshmen and sophomores.

Although ULM has some talent, they lack the coaching to make a splash this year.

RE: Best shot at making their first bowl?
Personally, I think the chances of any of the 3 teams in the poll that were mentioned will play in a bowl game at season's end are very slim. Of the three, I would have to go with the Warhawks and I would like to see it because the Techsters would go ballistic.

Please explain this statement...we have the same coaching that took a bunch of freshmen and sophomores to a 5 win season.

I will go with another angle. ULM at best will be 2-4 after the first six games, more then likely 1-5.

Florida State- L
Grambling- W
TCU- L
Iowa- L
ASU- toss up
Troy- L

At best, ULM would have to go 5-3 the rest of the season to get into a bowl. I don't see it and this is the flaw in any pre-season write up that doesn't consider your schedule. Your schedule is front loaded for poor results, except for Grambling. ULM needs to do a better job of scheduling with the underclassmen they are developing.

I don't see the Cajuns in a bowl because the depth is not there. But everthing would have to go right this season for ULM to overcome it's schedule.

Good point. If ULM can win more than a couple of those games, they should fair very well in the SBC. Gonna be tough.

I wish MT had a 1-aa on our schedule this year, but I guess it's hard to get one every year. I would not trade a 1-aa for Georgia Tech or Memphis State at home.

ULM going to a bowl would actually make the Sun Belt look even worse given the rationale of most Tech fans. Unless ULM can pull off an upset or two OOC, they'll just say "man the Sun Belt is even worse than we thought, ULM went to a bowl this year" they won't accept that ULM has gotten better, La Tech could go 2-10 and ULM could go 8-4 and most La Tech fans would be saying that they would have run the table in the Sun Belt if ULM could win seven in conference.

Is there any reason that Belt fans should really care about what Tech folks think ? Regardless of what happens in the Belt, they will make every effort to make it look negative. They do suffer from a cronically inflated ego that causes them to pass a lot of gas.03-melodramatic

No, there is no reason whatsoever, just making an observation.

ULM.

You all make some valid points about our LA Tech "friends" but I gotta be honest...

Reading the LA Tech Message board IF ULM went to and won a bowl game would be the most entertaining look into the mind of a delusional person that I can possibly imagine.

A few of the rational ones would make the leap that the 'Belt is not the 01-rivals hole they thought it was but the others would react as MTPikapp stated they would.

I find this statement odd coming from the poster who easily starts the most WACy/Tech threads.

And for the record, I agree with Z and T's assessments.

Too deep a hole, to little coaching to overcome it. And I'll reiterate, coaching alone easily cost ULM a couple of games last year. They won last year despite the coaching, not because of it.

If coaching were solid at ULM, they wouldn't have been beaten by a crippled up, Bustle coached Cajuns team when a bowl trip was on the line.

If they couldn't do it in 2010, what makes everyone so sure they'll get it done this year particularly with one of the most horribly front loaded schedules in the conference AND having to go to Troy?

Since the Jaguars of South Alabama won't be technically eligible until 2013 I voted for the Monroe Hawks.
