How do these guys think that something like this is going to win friends and influence with folks in C-USA? I bet in their deluded minds they think that Tulane is a lock to vote for latech when/if an opening occurs...

RE: How's This For Arrogance ?
Hmmm....3 other universities took in Tulane teams and helped them out after Katrina, yet you don't see any special demands from them. ULM rescheduled a game to accomodate LSU and North Texas. We don't get special treatment from LSU.
So, you put up their football team in a condemned dorm then expect them to schedule you but when they don't you pitch a public hissy fit?! Way to stay classy!!!
Now, not sure what the status of Tech's futures schedules were when Tulane and ULM signed their deal for the 2012 and 2013 seasons, but looking at Tech's future schedules, I see 6 OOC games for 2012, 5 OOC games for 2013 and 5 for 2014, only one of which was just recently added. Throw in the status of the WAC, the uncertain future of said conference, and the commitments that Tulane already had and methinks the Tech AD doth protest too much!!

You can't get much lower than that. Help someone then expect something in return.
We don't need this type of thinking in the SBC.

I don't know how y'all are missing this. All the Tech AD is saying is that Tulane hurt his feelings. We were there in their time of need and he would like to play them in a football game (that's not asking for very much). When he called them, they told him they were booked up .. but then they turned around and scheduled ULM. Either they are liars or they are scared to play.

I'm sure the Tulane AD didn't realize that there were strings attached to those 'charitable' actions.

Maybe they were already in negotations with ULM and not at liberty to discuss details. At any rate, your AD should have just kept his mouth shut.............

There were no strings attached. He just got his feelings hurt when his friend shat on him.

It was Derek Dooley doint the negotiations several years ago. The new AD kept calling them. They kept saying they had no openings. Then, a few months ago they announced the deal with ULM.

or maybe your openings and their openings didn't correspond? Or they were in negotiations with someone else when you called and they didn't want to sour that deal? Or maybe the deal worked out with ULM was better?
Bottom line is we are all trying to look into a cyrstal ball and we are guessing. One thing we do know is that your AD came out and said what he said. Regardless of his true feelings, he came to a point where he should have kept his mouth shut and he didn't and has made your university look like insufferable jack asses.

How do you know they weren't booked up? AD's typically have agreements and lock-in dates long before the final contracts are signed.
Bottom line here is that it all makes it look like Tech expected a quid pro quo for doing something nice and I suspect that Tulane and FEMA reimbursed some or all of Tech's kindness.

You mean like when Tulsa, Rice, and SMU had the chance to lobby for Tech and instead lobbied for UTEP?

I doubt our AD's feelings would have been hurt if it was a legitimate deal by Tulane.
I wouldn't have said anything if I were the AD, but I don't think he looks like a *******. We did the right thing, Tulane did not. Was Tulane obligated to play Tech? No. Did they have to lie about why they didn't want to play? Yeah, maybe they did.

No nothing like that. That's kind of a big deal. We were just talking about scheduling an in-state football game in this situation.

Like someone stated earlier in this thread, if you look at Tech's future schedules for the next 4-5 years there was no place to put Tulane anyway. You most likely wouldn't have played the Wave until 2015 at the earliest. Of course, that all depends on how many openings there are on the future schedules once Tech is out of the WAC. Maybe your AD is communicating something that nobody else knows?
As to ULM and Tulane, the Warhawks have already played the Green Wave twice in the last few years and we have a good relationship with the Greenies. It makes it a lot easier to schedule when you're already on good terms.
In the Shreveport paper, Jimmy Watson made an assinine comment when he said that Tulane scheduled ULM because we were no threat to Tulane's recruiting while Tech was just stealing players away from New Orleans. Last I looked at ULM's football roster we had up to 30 players from Tulane's recruiting footprint in addition to the nationally ranked punter and kicker we signed this year from that area. Tulane's not worried about ULM or Tech taking their recruits as they are about LSU.

Tech's schedules are a work in progress. We have just recently started filling them up. Dooley called Tulane at the same time he called Southern Miss and Houston. The games with those teams were scheduled for the 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 seasons.
After Tulane said they were full, the new AD scheduled Rice and UNLV and just recently ULL.
The Tulane fans agree with Watson.
