INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A former Sebastian River High School football standout was one of two suspects in a copper wire burglary last weekend, the Indian River County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies took Cortez Ash, 19, of Boca Raton and an accused accomplice into custody Saturday when the pair returned to the same scrap yard where they allegedly stole 400 pounds of copper wire, according to their affidavits. Staff at the scrap yard said the men were trying to sell the stolen wire to them, the affidavits state.

The copper was valued at $1,260, the Sheriff's Office said.

Ash graduated from SRHS last year and is on a football scholarship at Florida Atlantic University.

Seriously though, I hope he is kicked off the team if found guilty. I have no tolerance for that kind of behaviour at all from someone from my school.

That's unfair.

Howard's been coaching here for a decade and there has been maybe 4 or 5 incidents like this I can think of, all minor stuff. Howard can be accused of a lot of things, but he has run an amazingly clean program at FAU.

Jarvis has had his issues in his past, but again, in his time here, there have been no issues at all.

This kid must not be the sharpest tool in the shed if he's stealing the copper the night before and the next day he goes to the SAME PLACE he stole it from to sell it.

Well, anyone that steals anything is pretty dumb...the trying to sell it back to the same place just makes it even dumber...and it makes the story funnier.
