Think bigger.

If WAC football is going to dissolve, instead of adding 1 or 2 schools that cause weird divisions, add enough schools to allow 2 distinct, regional divisions. Each would be able to keep any NCAA units earned within the division, etc...It would really be an association of 2 different conferences operating under the SBC banner.

WEST

New Mexico State
UTSA
Texas State
North Texas
Arkansas State
ULM
Louisiana Tech
Louisiana

EAST

Western Kentucky
Middle Tennessee
Appalachain State
Georgia State
Troy
South Alabama

FIU

Please stop trying to snake UTSA and Texas State into the Sun Belt. Adding them is not thinking bigger, and we don't need them. We don't need any FCS programs. We need to shack the "gateway conference" stigma. We've had it long enough. Let the new WAC have that label. If we do expand, it should only be with current FBS programs that add value to the conference.

DRC Mean Green Blog on Tech vs ULL.........

EXCERPT

If I'm at UNT, I'm praying that somehow this all blows up and the Mean Green ends up in a league with not only Tech, but New Mexico State, whether they end up in the Sun Belt or a new league.

Both are great regional rivals UNT has played in the past. And people in Denton would actually care when they came to town.

Too bad little Brett didn't do his home work on this one, UL has been in negotiating with Tech for the past two years. When the football contracts were not returned, UL ended scheduling in all other sports until an agreement was worked out. Converstations have continued between the two schools over the past two years, including talks concerning the WAC and Sun Belt. Vitto didn't see this coming because he had no sources. It has been discussed numerious times on this site. Now on to more important matters then Brett Vitto's opinion blogs.03-drunk

The Great Darrell Dickey used to rub Brett Vito's head for good luck, but he stopped for some reason right before his two losing seasons and heart attack

Todge would not pick up the tradition even though RV, DD and BV all told TD that he needed to rub the Brett head for luck......we can see the results

I hear DMac has BV come by his office at least once a week for a little rubbin'

true story!

Dodge banned Vito from the practice fields. Vito wished him away to a cornfield.

And it's a real good thing that Vito did that. A REAL GOOD THING. And next season is gonna be a REAL GOOD season!

McCarney would be a fool to anger Vito. As would you all. Tread carefully. No hyphens or apostrophes will save you from his wrath.

Arkansas State is 220 miles closer to UNT than NMSU
ULM is 340 miles closer to UNT than NMSU
UL is 260 miles closer
USA is 2 miles closer
MTSU is 30 miles further
Troy is 40 miles further
WKU is 60 miles further

Looks to me that UNT has also sort of "regional" rival potential in the Sun Belt if NMSU is a regional rival. Maybe NMSU's 1-8 vs UNT record since UNT rejoined FBS is why it is so appealing. 03-shhhh

Just say no to New Mexico State. They more than double the east to west distance of the conference.

RE: OH NO!! SAY IT AINT SO!!!
I agree on the NMST thing with them being so far west.

However if the ever do a East/West confrence thing does it really matter all that much since your only going cross confrence twice a year in football? I have no idea how the basketball scheduleing would work with UALR in the mix.

Sun Belt East

FAU,FIU,MTSU,WKU,TROY,USA

Sun Belt West

UNT,Cajuns,ULM,ASU,LaTech,NMST

Thats not bad at all IMHO.

UNT has a long history with NMSU, sharing three conferences (MWC, Big West, SBC). NMSU returning to the Belt would be fine with me and much preferred over any addition of FCS folks wanting to move up if expansion were to occur.05-mafia

That's why NMST makes sense in the Western Division on the Sun Belt.

Arkansas State has shared three different conference with Lamar. Not asking them to join to rekindle something from the past.
