MONROE, La. - ULM football head coach Todd Berry announced the addition of Arizona graduate R.J. Young and Georgia prep standout Rashaud Bell to the Warhawk football program on Friday. The pair recently signed scholarship agreements with ULM and will be eligible to play beginning with the 2011 season.

Young, who graduated from Arizona with a degree in journalism in three years, will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Warhawks. The native of DeSoto, Texas, appeared in all 13 of the Wildcats games last season and made one start. A 5-foot-11, 232-pound weakside linebacker, Young finished the season with 19 tackles and a fumble recovery.

"R.J. has tremendous experience," Berry said. "I recruited him out of high school when I was at UNLV so I know his family very well. I also played with his father, so I know what his background is. He has already demonstrated his maturity by graduating from the University of Arizona in three years. We are excited to have R.J. be a part of our program."

Young played in 12 games as a redshirt freshman in 2009 and recorded six tackles. As a senior at DeSoto High School, he tallied 59 tackles and three sacks to earn first team all-district (8-5A) honors. Young was named to the Dallas Morning News Area Top 100 Team in addition to making Dave Campbell's Texas 300 Top 40 linebacker list.

Bell, a 6-foot-5, 205-pound wide receiver, was a multi-sport star at South Atlanta High School. As a sophomore, he earned all-region honors with 32 catches for 752 yards and eight touchdowns (23.5 yards per catch).

"I'm excited about Rashaud because he brings a lot of height to the wide receiver position," Berry said. "Offenses are going more speed based and so defenses have responded to that and there are a lot of shorter cornerbacks out there. We were searching for a guy with this type of height and athleticism for a while, so it is great to have him part of the program."

He helped lead South Atlanta to the 2009 3A Georgia State Championship as a junior. Bell was named all-state that season after averaging 15.8 points and 8.2 rebounds. He also played baseball for the Hornets.

Young graduated from Arizona in 3 years and has 2 years eligibility left. He can play immediately so hopefully he will provide some immediate help and worse case, depth. He had 18 tackles last year for Arizona. I believe Bell graduated early. He is 6'5" so he is a big target. He was also recruited by Colorado and Tenn Tech for basketball so perhaps he can double up on his sports and help out the basketball team.....Lord knows they can use it. If he gets us a player that provides decent college level talent but doesn't count as a scholly that would be great.
