Best Bowl Wins by Big East Teams 2005-2010
For purposes of this thread I am including TCU since I am trying to gauge the strength of the league overall moving forward.

I'm ranking them based upon the quality of the opponent, the bowl, and the circumstances.

1. West Virginia d. Georgia (2005) - Sugar Bowl
2. Texas Christian d. Wisconsin (2010) - Rose Bowl
3. West Virginia d. Oklahoma (2007) - Fiesta Bowl
4. Louisville d. Wake Forest (2006) - Orange Bowl

Obviously the BCS wins are the most important ones. It's a shame that the 2006 Louisville team didn't get a shot at LSU in the Sugar Bowl and that Texas Christian and Boise had to play each in 2009 instead of getting to face off against the supposed Big Boys in other BCS Bowls, but it is what is.

Best of the rest:

5. Texas Christian d. Boise (2008) - Poinsetta Bowl
6. West Virginia d. Georgia Tech (2006) - Gator Bowl
7. West Virginia d. North Carolina (2008) - Tire Bowl
8. Pittsburgh d. North Carolina (2009) - Tire Bowl
9. Connecticut d. South Carolina (2009) - Papa John's Bowl
10. Syracuse d. Kansas State (2010) - Pinstripe Bowl
11. Rutgers d. Kansas State (2006) - Texas Bowl
12. Texas Christian d. Iowa State (2005) - Houston Bowl

I think the above are pretty much cut and dried. TCU beating an undefeated Boise in 2008 has to top the list. I rated the SU over K-State higher than the RU over K-State mainly because Rutgers deserved a better opponent and bowl game that year.

Let's hope the league can add another BCS Bowl win this year to be on the uptick going into TV contract negotiations.

Cheers,
Neil

Are you serious? A 7-5 team beating another 7-5 team by 2 points, is better than a 4 TD win by an 11 win team?

After the bowl game, Clemson finished 6-7. Hard to make the case that that's a "best win." That said, at least Clemson's a name. You'd have a hard time convincing me that Iowa State should EVER count as a big bowl win...

Rutgers clearly deserved to either play in a better bowl, or play a better opponent with a similar record. When Rutgers played KSU, they squashed them because they clearly a much better team playing a mediocre 7 or 8 win team. The Pinstripe and the Insight are similer bowls imo. One was very exciting and got great ratings, and the other was a old fashioned beatdown. Margin of victory doesnt always equate to a better or lessor game.

Agreed. Had Rutgers faced and beaten Boston College at the Tire Bowl, which is what should have happened, that bowl win would have ranked much higher on the list, imho.

Cheers,

I agree, Clemson's name value makes it a more valuable bowl with than TCUs over Iowa State. That was a good Iowa State team (great team by Iowa State standards), but they have little name value and the game was relegated to NFL network. Those two things together and few people even realize that bowl game happened.

I think that TCU-Iowa St. bowl game was on ESPN. It was the last Houston Bowl. The game was relicensed the following offseason to the Texans who put it on NFL Network.

To put it in perspective, Iowa State is one of only four AQ teams that have never appeared in the BCS standings (along with Vandy, Indiana and Duke).

Yep I just looked on gofrogs; it was a ESPN2 game. It was the Houston vs. TCU Texas Bowl that I was thinking of when saying NFL Network.
