Georgia State coach Bill Curry was a former Tide coach, and left after a season where a disgruntled student threw a brick through the window of his house after a loss. He later resigned (although he had a 26-10 overall record). Alabama was trying to make amends by doing Ga. State and his program a HUGE favor.

This has NOTHING to do with Ga. State. If Curry wasn't there Alabama would have never scheduled them.

I respectfully disagree. Alabama playing Ga. State was not about an apology for a brick being thrown though his window. I believe Bill Curry took advantage of the fact that he had ties to Alabama that enabled him to get their attention. Likewise, Alabama had the opportunity to attract more attention from Georgia and turn the heat up on the Bull Dogs.

By the way, the Bull Dogs returned the favor. Georgia host South Alabama in 2014.

This ain't checkers.....this is chess.

Bill Curry told the story of the offer from Alabama for that game.
It doesn't happen if he isn't the former coach. Period.

Correct. Curry being at GSU is the ONLY reason why they were placed on Bama's schedule. He did the team, athletic department and the University a huge favor when he departed and took the Kentucky job. This game was a "payback" for said favor and that is the end of the Bama/Curry relationship. 'Nuff said.

Don't forget the easy, guaranteed "W", too :-) Had Coach Bill Curry been hired at Notre Dame or Oregon, I have a hard time picturing 'Bama doing the same "favor" for him they did for him after his taking the helm at @ THE Mighty GSU.
