RE: Take a Virtual Tour of the New FAU Stadium
I have to think that Conf USA is looking at this and getting some ideas.

Plus, we had to build the stadium in a much quicker time frame then yours. So while the stadium is steel construction, FAU has done a great job of "dressing" it.
Yup, and they had too.
South Florida is NOT a good sports fan town. Peopel wont come out because they are loyal or want to see a football game. They value comfort and the experience over the game itself. FAU is really trying to offer that.
I know we had to wait a LOT longer then we wanteed to for a stadium, but it might be turning out that it was a good thing for us to wait and do it right. We shall see.

Not to veer off topic, but I disagree with your generalization (and it's not just your opinion, but I think we get a bad rap around here) that South Florida is not a good sports town and that people don't care about the game and only come for the experience. The main problem is that we are a realtively young sports town. A lot of people move here from other places and most of our teams (Marlins, Panthers, Heat, FAU, and FIU) have only been around a short amount of time. The fan bases are still growing. It takes a generation or two of locals growing up with the teams to really take hold. In general, South Florida is like most other areas when it comes to sports. We'll support a winner. If the product is poor, nobody will come out. We may not be the most passionate fans in the country, but even in places like Boston and New York, if the teams are bad, so is the attendance.
OK. That was my rant. Back to the FAU stadium talk....

You are correct, but until those generations do kick in the "experience" fans will be it. Both of my kids have grown are growing up with the FAU experience and with me talking it up. So they will hopefully carry on that.
But as you said South Florida really only supports a "winner" which does make it a bad sports town IMHO.
Hopefully with the way this stadium is being done those experience people will like what they see and get involved. Thats what we have to hope for.
It will take time for sure.

But my point is that MOST places only support a winner. Name me the teams that lose and still draws fans? The only one that comes to mind are the Cubs and that is only because Wrigley Field is an attraction. Texas football sucked this year and they couldn't draw flies (realtively speaking) to most games. Fans only supporting a winner doesn't make a town a bad sports town. It makes it a typical sports town.
